I too would like to see the Tkinter Script problem resolved.
I suspect it is only caused by the restrcuturing of the Corel Program Files folders
from X2 to X3, when PSPClassic was introduced.
Losing the Tkinter facily means even 'standard' scripts such as GridByPercent are lost
(written by Joe Fromm at Jasc in 2002-3)
and that scripts written by us that use it are unworkable.

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
One small niggle with X3 is that Black Icons and Buttons are lost
against the black menus and toolbars.
I see that Icons now have a White Square behind them but
the 'Close' Button is still invisible

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
I have just tried the Raw Camera Lab with my new Canon 550D.
The good news is that it does read the CR2 file successfully.
It no longer brightens the image drastically like it did before the patch.
Unfortunately, it now darkens the image somewhat
in comparison to the JPEG produced by the camera at the same time
as the RAW image

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
It might be due to the file re-structuring but if you look at the default path that python returns and is used to locate the _tkinter.pyd file it returns the location perfectly. So while possible, I am currently doubting that this might be the reason.

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
Only Canon's software is going to give you something that looks like the jpeg straight out of camera without tinkering. Even the guys running Photoshop CS5 have to "apply a profile" to the file to make it resemble something that you'd want to print.Tadjio wrote:I have just tried the Raw Camera Lab with my new Canon 550D.

Frankly not having RAW files supported by PSP was not an issue with me because of that. I could simply use Canon's Digital Photo Professional to render the most out of the RAW files that can be achieved and then process into Tiffs for PSP to work it's magic. I actually kind of feel sorry for the Corel guys because unless they reverse engineer every camera's RAW files from every manufacturer they aren't going to get it close to what the camera manufacturers already do and somebody's going to whine about it. Kind of like being told to reinvent the wheel in my opinion.

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
When I posted my comment about Raw Camera Lab, stating that the RAW CR2 file is much darker than the equivalent JPEG, it was only intended as an observation, not to provoke a debate about RAW
I agree that not having RAW files supported by PSP is not an issue with me either.
I do not use the Raw Camera Lab as I always use Canon's Digital Photo professional software and output a TIFF to PSP.
However, even without Corel having 'knowledge' of the Canon Picture Style, I stand by my observation.
One day it would be nice... (in your dreams

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
In the camera, the various tonality settings set in the camera are applied to the saved .jpg. They are not applied to the RAW files in terms of pixels but should be stored in the images metadata. In Canon DPP the metadata of the RAW files are applied to the .tif during conversion. They are also applied in the RAW viewing if the image is saved in RAW format.
The X3 offers the tonality settings in its RAW editor just like DPP. It looks like importing directly the RAW file may not read the metadata accompanying it but those settings are available for application in the X3 RAW editor. When the RAW file isd opened in X3 perhaps it assumes the same default settings in the camera environment regarding the standard intent, tone curve, and other factors.
Since the CANON DPP editor works in a greater bit depth in RAW mode and does not need to reduce the image to eight bit channels for using histograms, I prefer to get the tonality correct in DPP and then convert to 8 bit .tif for further processing in X3. I haven't tried bringing a 16 bit .tif into X3 yet but I don't think that would influence the lack of ability for X3 to work with histograms in 16 bit mode images.
The last is too bad, really, since fine adjustments could be made with X3's more extensive color management in force. DPP does offer some device color management, however, for monitor and printer relationships though not as extensive as X3.

These "tonality settings" in the metadata are based on Canon's "Picture Styles". Most Raw converters other than DPP do not read these and so they are lost in X3.ronzie wrote:In the camera, the various tonality settings set in the camera are applied to the saved .jpg.

However I believe that it is still true that X3 "darkens" Raw CR2 images compared with JPEGs or DPP and ZoomBrowser.
This contrasts with Tim's more fundamental issue regarding the over brightening that was occuring before which is fixed.

Re: Direct Link to Patch 2
I always output from DPP in 16-bit TIFF rather than 8-bit. In X3 I do not use Histogram Adjustment much, preferring to use 16-bit facilities such as Levels and High Pass Sharpen. X3 does work with 16-bit Histograms - it is just that Histogram Adjustment is 8-bitronzie wrote: Since the CANON DPP editor works in a greater bit depth in RAW mode and does not need to reduce the image to eight bit channels for using histograms, I prefer to get the tonality correct in DPP and then convert to 8 bit .tif for further processing in X3.
