WinDVD9 doesn't play Green Zone

Post by Sirandar »

After much consideration I have to declare WinDVD BD a failed product for playing Blu-Ray disc (but it plays normal DVDs very well)

The product fails on so many levels because it isn't supported.

Here is my experience with WinDVD BD playing Green Zone, a new release

Step 1) Pop the disk in
Step 2) Suffer though the stupid semi functioning BD-live crapware (4 min)
Step 3) Suffer though the trailers as they an non-skipable (7 min)
Step 4) Get to to the load screen and press ENTER on my keyboard (4 min)
Step 5) Loud screech comes from my speakers but movie seems to play
Step 6) Press STOP --- Crash to desktop
Step 7) Restart WinDVD
Step 8) Wait to get to loading screen (3 min)
Step 9) WinDVD displays loading screen but there is now no option to start movie
Step 10) Repeat steps 7-9 (3 min) Same result can't start movie
Step 11) Turn off 24 bit audio and repeat steps 7-9 (10 min) Still can't play movie
FAIL 30 minutes wasted

Here is my experience with ArcSoft TMT playing Green Zone, a new release

Step 1) Pop the disk in
Step 2) Skip the stupid semi functioning BD-live crapware (0 min)
Step 2b) Select block internet access with Windows firewall
Step 3) Skip though the trailers (0 min)
Step 4) Get to to the load screen and press ENTER on my keyboard (2 min)
Step 5) Enjoy movie

Which one would you buy, which one would you use?

WinDVD fails every second or third movie I try to play, Arcsoft TMT played them all.

Read This form Corel

Answer ID 764424 - WinDVD® and Blu-ray title compatibility
In order to play recently released Blu-ray titles and update to WinDVD® may be required

WinDVD® 8 and WinDVD® 9 may not provide play back support for newer Blu-ray titles released in 2010. These products are at the end of their development life cycle. Corel will no longer be releasing compatibility updates to these versions to support the playback of new Blu-ray movies.

Corel® WinDVD Pro 2010 does support the playback of new Blu-ray titles released in 2010. Click here to upgrade to the latest version.

The Upgrade costs 39.00$

Abandonware .......What a kick in the teeth ........... I wouldn't dream of paying one more cent to Corel for WinDVD even though I am pretty sure they aren't close to 100% to blame, it is the crappy Blu-ray standard throwing all those useless features out BEFORE they even get the movies to play properly

Bye bye Corel ....
