Installation Error

Post by brighteyes »

In attempting to install Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 from CD, almost immediately, I get an "unspecified error" on line 138, char 2, file:///D:/Lang/EN/Custom/js/Progress.js - then it asks me if I want to continue running scripts. No matter if I click yes or no, the program just stops installing and I have to click cancel.

Any ideas?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and just purchased this version because my old PaintShop 6 doesn't work so well on Windows 7.

Thank you.

When referring to anyting Java the file extension ".js" is JavaScript not Java. Those two technologies share a portion of a name, and the same language scheme as many other languages but are completely different technologies.

Have you attempted to copy the PSP installation files from the CD onto your harddrive and run them from there? This looks like it might have more to do with the menu that pops up when you first insert the disk.

Try disabling your security software and reinstalling, you can leave your firewall going though. I also turn off UAC but that's a little more involved. Right click the installer and run as administrator.

I copied the CD to my hard drive and tried from there - same result,

I disabled virus software and other nonessential programs - same result

Clicked setup.exe to run as administrator - same result.

Any other ideas?

I'd suggest going straight to Corel's phone support. There won't be any charge for solving a problem with first time installation. Go to http://corel.custhelp.com/ and follow the link under the "Contact a Support Specialist" heading.

I would try phone support but I'm hearing impaired and it would be a frustrating experience for both sides. So hoping to find help outside the phone . . .

They also have an internet chat option. So you can live chat with a support person. I never had very good experience with this but Corel support is not overly consistent so you might fair better.

Hi, I'm PM who in charge of PSPP program in Corel. I have interest with the problem you met and could you give more information? Have you chance to install it in another machine? Can you give a snapshot for reference? Thx.

It installs fine on my laptop but will not install on my desktop. Email support suggested copying files to my hard drive and installing that way - same error. Downloaded trial version, same error. I get the gray popup screen box that says Script Error, then "An error has occurred to the script on this page:
Line: 138
Char: 2
Error: Unspecified error
Code: 0
Url: file:///D:/Lang/EN/Custom/js/Progress.js
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

If I click no, it just hangs. If I click yes, a new popup screen comes up saying the same thing except Line: 179, Char: 5, URL: file;///D:/Lang/EN/Custom/js/Tabs.js

It does matter if I click yes or no on this screen, it just hangs and nothing happens.

Hi,

I can reproduce the exact same error - same file, same line. Regardless of what I do the program hangs, and I have to cancel installation. This happens with the trial version of Paint Shop Pro X3 that I've just downloaded from your website (PSPP_X3_TBYB.exe) on Windows 7.

When I say I don't want to debug an error it shows me the same error message for line 179, and then the setup screen does not update. I have to click the close button to exit.

If any more info is needed just let me know.

EDIT: After I played with IE's script debugging settings nothing change. I then rebooted, and everything started working and the program installed correctly. I guess it shouldn't matter, but when Setup was failing I had just uninstalled my ATI graphics drivers but had not rebooted yet... It doesn't make sense for that to produce a JS error in your program, but then again changing IE's settings should not have solved it either - especially since it was only after I rebooted, and I did not touch that after the reboot.

Oh well, at least it's installed now :)

Thanks
