Windows Installer 3.1 KB 893803
I have been running VS 9 successfully without this Windows Installer update.
My system has now checked for windows updates and identified this as being required.
Should I install it?
Why not?
Let’s do it!
Maybe that wasn’t a good idea.
VS 9 now freezes every time I try to capture video or go to change capture plug-in.
( vstudio.exe has generated errors etc)
I have now un-installed the Windows Installer 3.1 KB 893803
All appears to be working again.
So what’s the Installer for?
Why is it affecting my system?
OS.
Win 2k pro 5.0, build 2195
Athlon XP 2500
Ram 1 Gb
Direct x 9.0c
Any thoughts
With thanks Trevor
PS:
There seems to be a lot of problems out there with VS 9 freezing / crashing.
I realise the majority are trouble free, so what’s the rest of us doing wrong.

I too also experienced vs9 crashing / freezing. In this following example it was user error that seem to cause the freeze up
I capture video in 10-15 min increments (a one hr video is captured 4-6 clips)...
After 10 mins in video "capture" I click on "stop capture".....It takes vs9 about 20 sec before it's ready to capture again. What caused my freeze ups was that I had clicked on "stop capture" after about 5 sec, thinking that vs9 had already placed the clip in the library. This would freeze vs9 and I had to re-boot each time until I finally figured it out.
VS8 seemed to be faster is this area of capture. I've also noticed that VS9 takes more time to open a file and to render then did vs8. Just an comment of what I've experienced.
