Hi Peter
And welcome to the forum.
We need a little more info regarding your video files.
Are you referring to video files on your hard drive, or a DVD disc?
What version of video studio are you using?
As they were created by Video Studio I would expect the File / DVD to play ok.
Are you saying that Windows Media Player does not play the File / DVD with audio?
Do the DVD’s play on your stand alone DVD player to a TV set.?
OK
For a start right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
When installing video studio the Mpeg codec should have been installed.
Again what version of video studio are you using?
There is a post at the top of this forum which tells you what info we need, practically everything.

Re: no audio in video files
Hi Trevor
Thanks for getting back to me.
I am using video studio 6 se.
Yes the dvd plays fine in the stand alone player to tv.
Windows media player does not play the audio track.
If I check properties of the file it does not show anything in the space for the codec for the audio and video sectons.
Thanks again
Pete

Re: no audio in video files
Is there audio in VS6 SE? If so I wouldn't be concerned about WMP. I've got some DVDs that WMP just will not play, even though they play fine in other software media players as well as stand-alone players. I recall some time ago where WMP did not come with a DVD codec, ie; MPEG-2. The software media player I mainly use is WIndows Media Player Classic Home Cinema. It is free and can be downloaded from Sourceforge's website.. http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/. Another to try is VLC player... http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.
Your second question, yes you should be able to. In fact you might find that the audio is there. VS6 is such an old program, it did not include Dolby Digital, due to license requirements. Then to top that off, your version an SE, (of any version), will not include Dolby for the same reason. SE versions are freebies, like non-expiring trial versions. Most of the time they are tweaked by the hardware vendors to work specifically with their hardware. Since VS 9 or 10 (full versions), Ulead, now Corel, has included the ability to create Dolby digital audio from within VS.
