Permanently Remove "My PSP Files" From "My Documents"?

Post by ajk1962f »

I sent this question via email to Corel Support, but they told me that they were unable to answer it and referred me to their phone support number, which has a fee for use. I replied that I would not pay for phone support if I had the option to ask the question user-to-user for free.

The question:

I do not want a folder "My PSP Files" in My Documents. I do not use this folder. When I had PSPX2 I moved this file to C:> Program Files > Corel. I did the same with PSPX3. But every time I initialize PSPX3, it keeps recreating the My PSP Files folder in My Documents. How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think you can keep this folder from being created when you install PSP. But you don't have to use it, and you can delete it. This folder and sub-folders are for all the brushes, mask, patterns, frames, etc, etc, etc that you create or accumulate outside of what Corel provides. You can put these items in any folder you want and point PSP to your folders. But if you put these items in the C:> Program Files > Corel, these items will be gone if you re-install PSP.

Prior to PSPP X3 You could place the my psp files where you wanted but X3 insists on creating them in My document on install. Because there part of the install the MS installer checks all files and folders are as the should be when X3 is opened Any missing fills Or folders are replaced. So deleting them only makes PSP replace them. Win & does not have a my documents Its called "Documents" So psp X3 created a my documents to put the my psp folders in. I tried to remove them as my Own my psp folder was in the Documents Which is on the D drive Partition. Guess what It just kept putting it back. If you cant beat em ! so i moved my Resources into the X3 one and deleted the old ones.
Now there is a good reason for the my PSP folder. All tubes etc that come with the program and installed with it are in the root folder of X3 in the programs folder. Should you need to un install psp then there wiped. no problem because there installed when you reinstall X3. But if you had collected lots of resources either created by You or Purchased You would be very upset If they where all wiped of the drive. So you resources should be stored in the My PSP Folder where they will be save, And should also be backed up too.

Thank you to those who replied.

To reiterate, I do not use the My PSP Files or anything inside it. I keep my files in my own subfolders of My Documents.

I do not want PSP telling me how to organize my files, or to keep installing folders that I do not want or need--especially in My Documents. These folders are a distraction and a nuisance.

If anybody knows how to configure PSP so that My PSP Files does not keep getting re-created every time I initialize PSP, please let me know.

Thanks.

I too want to do this. I moved "My PSP Files" to a different location and went through the tedious process of resetting the location for each of the many subfolders, but the bloody thing keeps coming back. On my laptop, I want to be able to quickly back up My Documents to a thumb drive, and so I only put things there that I want backed up, which definitely doesn't include My PSP Files. Also, this stupid convention of creating My-This and My-That clutters up my folder list, meaning I have to scroll down to find folders that begin with a letter after M. The fact that the X3 software keeps creating files after you have manually removed them and told the program not to include them in the lists of file locations is absolutely infuriating. Why Corel added this "feature" with X3 is utterly beyond me.

Whether you have the My PSP Files in My Document or not, it is safer NOT to use it to store anything you gather or create. Make another set of My PSP Files (or call them whatever you need) because if you ever have to uninstall PSP, those folders will also be deleted. I also once, installed PSPX3 and it overwrote the My PSP Files from my PSP9. Good thing there was not much important (and all backed up too) because i would have lost their content.
I dont know how to get rid of those My PSP Files folders, as i leave them there, even if i dont use them. They are empty by default.
