Capturing Audio Problem

Post by kluckers »

Ok I am using a One Touch Video Capture Card to capture footage from my television. All cords are in the correct place and such. Im using Corel Video Studio to capture the audio and video from the Tv. The video capturing is fine apart from the quality which is pretty average. The larger problem is that when I hit the 'capture video' button it captures video directly from my tv but captures audio from my computers built-in microphone. I want it to capture the audio coming from the Tv. Obviously I would use the software that came included with the capture card to do all of my capturing, but it seems i misplaced that... So, is there a solution? or do I need to find that old software disc which may not be possible?

Using the software which came with a capture device is always best. I understand that the One Touch comes with an SE version of Video Studio, though this would normally be either VS9 or 10 SE. While this might suggest an even more recent, full version of VS should work with it, the reality is that the hardware manufacturers usually tweak VS to work with their device, but don't share the secret with Corel. In other words, later full versions of VS may not work (and usually don't!!) with the capture device... So do a bit of a search!

That being said, have you made sure that the audio cable is plugged into the right jack on your computer. Normally it would go into the Line-IN jack, but if that doesn't work, try the pink MIC jack...

By the way, if your TV is a HDTV model, then you would only ever get a fairly average capture from the One Touch as it only seems capable of capturing in standard def format.

Yea figured I might have issues. And there is no way for me to plug the audio into the mic port, because the one-touch capture card is set up so that it connects audio and video to the computer via USB port. Sooo not really sure what i can do. Is there a way to 'downgrade' my video studio so that it is compatible? Im going to try and disable my built-in mic so that maybe it will take audio from the capture card instead of my computer's mic. Didnt think i could have such a problem like this....

No way to 'downgrade' your later VS, I am afraid... that's a programming/coding job...

As for your audio problem, I too have one of those el cheapo capture devices (though it has sat in a drawer for several years now...) I too had audio problems with it as I thought the audio should have come over the USB cable with the video. In fact, it took a couple of weeks for me to notice that one side of the device, there was 3.5mm plug hole and I had to connect a separate cable from that to my Line-In on the computer. After that, I got audio as well. So in other words, do you have an otherwise unused jack on the device which might be similarly used?
