Long Rendering Time - VideoStudio Pro X3

Post by oka »

I have the 90 minute video, edited and wanted to Create a Disk to an ISO image. So with the X3, I have to first create a video file then insert into DVDMF7SE. The settings I set was for AVCHD NTSC HD-1920, to be rendered to my hard drive. The video is about 90 minutes long. Smart Proxy is already enabled.

From Create Disk (Create Video File) to about one hour, the rendering only went 25%; which would be about four hours. With VS11+ and a 90 min. video, it would be about 45 minutes for a DVD-720x480 video.

Just chatted to the Chat Line and was asked to contact Tech Support (which I have to pay for).
The tech person said I need to do more setting. What are these other settings?

Guess the HD files are way much more system demanding. Is there anything I can do to at least make the rendering time a little shorter?

Just last night I happened to do a test 'burn' of an AVCHD disk folder. I did this test for another user who was worried, amongst other things, about the length of the final video, so I was focused on how long the rendering process lasted and how long the final file was. The 'burning' time was in fact similar to others I have done in the past. The test clip was 2 minutes 30 seconds long, but it took 12 minutes to produce the AVCHD folder. In other words, a bit under five times the real time. So your own experience is not inconsistent with that. And as you assume, that is the nature of the AVCHD beast!

Guess It's The Cost Of Better Quality Video !

Post by oka »

Doing the maths with our 2.5min video, it would then have taken you 7.2hours to render my video to a MPEG file. I'll let it run and see what will happen, I was estimating four hours for mine. Tonight I'll let it grind up and will post my result tomorrow - if I remember. It's worth it though - I love the srisptness of the higher quality results.

By the way, any other setting I might have to do if I will be rendering higher quality videos, with the exception of the the already enabled Smart Proxy?

Thanks.

Could you also update your profile with your system specifications.
Obviously the more powerful your computer the faster it renders your video!

Actually, my signature has my specifications and I really have to remove some since I not wholy use my HDMI capture card, and I added my Camcorder. So what you see in my signature is what I have. Do I have them in the right place (signature)?

On another note, I sent a private mail to a site administrator (phpbbadmin) about my user name.

Thanks

Your specs should go in your profile they will then appear whenever you post. Go to your User Control Panel, click "profile" and fill in the lower half. You will see that there are stars against the motherboard etc. New members are required to fill in these details before they can register but you like many of us joined before that rule came in. If you look at Ken's, Steve's and my posts here and then look at yours you will see where the specs should show!

Well, there is nothing in your signature. And no, it is not the correct place. It should go

What are the file types and specs of the files on the timeline, if you have to change many apsects, such as the aspect ratio it will take much longer to render and save a file, here you talk of two sizes, 1920 x 1080? 1080i/1080p? and 720x480

Sorry all since I did not get to check the render time as promised. I was redoing my whole system and all are almost done. Though I tried a thirty minute render which was not bad.

Graham, I have always used "Same As Project Settings".

UPDATE

Post by oka »

COMPUTER SYSTEM:
Hard Drive sleep mode is off
Anti-Virus is enabled
Internet is unplugged

VIDEO:
Length: 1hr 13min. 26sec.
Rendering Time: 4Hrs and at 55% video rendered (Which would be about 8hrs to render the video. I stopped the rendering). See attached file for file Properties.

GOAL:
Create a video file in VSProX3 – import into DVDMF7Se – Write an ISO image.
PERSONALLY: The long rendering time is too long. The only difference from before is I was using VS11+ and DVD 720-480 files (none AVCHD). Now I have same machine, VSProX3 and rending a AVCVHD 1920 file . . . but still!

So you are taking an AVCHD (MPEG4) file and rendering it to a MPEG2 file? That will take some time as it has to render the entire project. Having not used AVCHD I cannot comment as to how long that might take.
