Uninstalling from windows 7

Post by flynny »

Hey all I have VS X3 pro. It was all working fine but after installing a suggested patch the program started crashing when trying to create a file or disc.

I sent off the report to the support desk and got a message back saying I needed to uninstall the program and then reinstall it to make sure no files are corrupted or some jibberish.

this link was provide with instructions on how to completely remove the program http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... 0/r_id/166.

I followed the instructions. however when I try and run the install it sees the program as still being there and asks me if I want to uninstall. Clicking OK it does it's thing but then comes up with and error, uninstall not complete. Only works with programs that are installed.....

I've redone the uninstall instructions several time to make sure I'm not missing a step but it's not working

anyone have any suggestions on whether windows 7 needs something different from the XP or Vista instructions?

What about a System Restore to a point before the patch was applied?

Hi

A search of the Corel Knowledge base (link at top of this forum) came up with a manual uninstall.

http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... 3/r_id/166

and while your in the Corel site look for patches and updates, if there are any?
Direct X…have you manually installed the update, link at top of forum?

Hi flynny
These instructions certainly work as is with Windows 7. Did you reboot your PC after the install procedure was completed? Also are you absolutely certain that you carried out the regedit instructions completely? Finally exactly what do you mean by quote: corrupted or some jibberish.?

BTW Trevor the link that you posted is the same as flynny quotes in his original post!

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I have rebooted and as stated I have repeated the instructions to uninstall several times to make sure I was doing everything correctly.
Just a thought I have movie factory installed Would I need to clear it too? I wouldn't have thought so as it is a separate program.

I'm just annoyed because every thing was working OK before I ran the patch

Hi

Sorry about the link duplication, must read more carefully.

Maybe its time to ask what type of files your working with?
Does X3 only crash with the same project or is it happening to all?

What options are you choosing to create the file or disc.?

Did you consider Jeffs suggestion of System Restore?

Crashed bot trying to create a disc and create a file (tried a couple of different options both big and small files)

System restore looks like it might be my only option. Was hoping there was an easier way out of it.

No need to uninstall any other Corel apllications you may have. System Restore is one of the easiest options. No problem unless your anti virus software stops a restore. Norton has a habit of doing this. If you get the message "Failed to restore" then do not despair, go into safe mode and try from there, that usually works OK!
But I still can't see why you can't uninstall VS x3 we must have all missed something :? Just as a thought try Clicking the Start button and typing in "13.0" without the "" in the search box to see if there are any legacy files left behind. There must be something still on your system that refers to VS x3!
Just reread your first post and i see the crash occurs when you try to Create a Video file or Create a disc. When you go to create a disk which of the two programs do you choose to create your disc and does that program open properly? Which one do you choose DVD Factory Pro or DVD MF 7E because if it is the latter this will not open unless VS x3 is closed?

I tried dvd factory. It opens, selects menu and starts rendering the file before crashing. Same with Creating a file. It was starting the rendering and get about 330% through and then crashing. I tried some smaller files too.

Typing in "13" to the start search brings up 4 devices but no files.

I notice that in one of the folders where I deleted "13" from there is also a folder called "2010" should I try deleting that too

My last restore point looks to be a couple of months ago. If I go down that path will I loose all my work/files since that point?

Hi flynny

I’ve had similar crashing problems using X2 over the last week.
Have managed to re-install successfully.
The problem was related to audio files in some way, render my project with audio content and the program crashed after 4 %. The details are unimportant.
I tried everything I could think of and finally System Restore, this just made things worse, VS just wouldn’t open.

A Clean Install proved successful.

When we uninstall Video Studio not all files are removed, some remain in shared or common folders. These have to be removed manually.
Firstly I do not have any working folders, Video files, Project files on my C:Drive, so locating remaining files to delete is relatively easy knowing that I am not going to delete the wrong ones.

Some files are hidden and I had to change the option using windows explorer Tools-Folder Options-View tab to ‘Show hidden files and folders’

I am using Vista so don’t know the file locations on W7 but assume they will be similar.

This link shows the details for VS 10 uninstall and some common file locations.

Ok this is what I did
Uninstall all Video Studio products (X2 and VS10 and a third ‘Burn to disc’ program)
Uninstall Smart Sound.
Searched / Browsed my pc C:drive for all remaining Corel and Video Studio files to delete.
I did NOT do Regedit.

Re-installed X2, and applied updates, all ok.

Yes as it is part of the VS x3 install

You wont loose any data files by doing a system restore but DO MAKE A BACKUP anyway just to be on the safe side!

The Saga continues..

I finally got the program uninstalled after having to do a system restore.. I've now reinstalled and ran the update patches.

Now it's not reading my files properly I'm using mov files in H.264 video codec, AAC audio compression. This files get imported but the image and audio is blank

mpeg and wmv seem ok

Seriously annoyed as this was all working fine and VS ability to handle these files was the sole reason for purchase

Hi

System restore didn’t work for me either, just made things worse, re my earlier post.

When you uninstalled did you do a Clean Install. :?:
That is to manually remove all remaining files related to the program before the installation?
