paintshop pro x3 crashing

Post by computertech82 »

i have paintshop pro x3 crashing when clicking the font icon, to add text. removing all fonts (except what windows will not allow to remove), does NOT help. also uninstalling and reinstalling paintshop also doesn't help. Any one know how to FORCE paintshop to say what the error is. or how to trace what the error is?

If Background and Fill is set to Transparent you will get a crash using text.

I have no problem changing fonts.

Also, you might want to search for more issues in this forum.

Text in psp adds as a vector layer, so even a transparent background will not interfere (i've done that before). The program worked before, and crashed before on a font. Gimp has NO problems with the fonts, but psp did. After deleting a few, psp worked again. This time, however, it didn't work. I deleted ALL fonts, but psp will crash clicking the text icon (NOT using the text, just CLICKING the text icon). While Gimp works FINE with the fonts on the system. Obvious unstable problem with psp and fonts, but NOT other programs that use fonts.
i also searched the censored forums. Nothing about the issue.

[Text in psp adds as a vector layer, so even a transparent background will not interfere (i've done that before)]

** Correct, me too.

But, I said : " If Background and Fill is set to Transparent you will get a crash using text".

I took you for your word.rechecked the foreground/background colors. both set to a color. still crashed. Tried again, but this time, I checked ALL tools, ONE tool (push brush) was set for no color background, all the rest had both colors. This time it actually worked. But I also installed/reinstalled the pspx3 incentive program. Not sure which one fixed it.

This is the windows error I was getting:

You could reset one of the tools to having one of the colors transparent and test it to see which fixed the problem.

But that's the general error I get when using initializing the text tool without the fill or stroke color.

However, the text tool in X3 is brand new, new method of application and design, and doesn't work like it used to on a code level so there are bugs to work out. For example, before the patch no matter what I did the text tool crashed almost all of the time. Now if I use the text tool once I can turn the background/foreground colors transparent after that no matter how many times and it won't crash until I restart the program.

So....hopefully it'll be more stable by the time either another patch comes or the next upgrade. My money is on patch though, can you imagine the number of people who'll give up if they have to buy a new version to fix this problem?

Hi computertech82
I did this procedure and it worked now I can use the Text tool

1. Inside Paint Shop Pro, go to File | Preferences | Reset preferences.
2. Check delete all Cache files.
3. Click Ok.
4. Try the tool that was giving you the problem and note if behavior continues.

hi all,

i reset preferences/deleted cache as this thread and another on this board recommended, but i ams still having this same problem! >:0
when i open Corel, open a new or existing project and click on anything other than font first, THEN click font, Corel doesn't automatically crash. however at any given moment, it will random crash on me after i do a few things (add font, use certain, effects, etc.).

i am rather discouraged with this and beg for some help with this! i find it rather annoying that i have to continue to save after every little edit i make, and continually having to open Corel over and over again and open the project over and over. it's very time consuming, and rather than being able to focus on my graphic work, i have to be concerned with saving and re-opening. it is a huge hassle. i am a little confused as to why i brand such as Corel has dont nothing to fix this bug.

i have been checking everyday for months to see if there is a new update, but obviously there never is....

please PLEASE help!

thank you very much in advance!

~Brendan

p.s. COREL!!! PLEASE FIX YOUR PROGRAM! YOUR CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS!!! :?

Brendan, if it's that serious of a problem you need to contact Corel directly. Very few if any are having a problem as serious as you are. So we can only recommend what has worked for others.

You keep saying you check for updates but there never are any. Can you tell us which updates you do have? Or better yet just make sure you've downloaded all of the patches (there are 4). If Paint Shop Pro is not detecting them then download them manually from here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 9872271743

If you have all four patches installed already then you need to contact Corel directly. Because this problem initially existed before patch #2 came out. After that the program became much more stable.

PSPx3 crashes all the time kinda of sucks......it must crashes at least 2 to 3 times daily
and you have to pay for support kinda of sucks 2........How about making a reliable product
if you use the item of resizing it keeps saying out of memory they sure wanna take our money
but they sure dont wanna help for support issues
