VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
I am trying to Add a VideoStudio project .VSP to DVD Moviefactory SE 7. I created the project in VS x3 and then saved the project. I selected MovieFactory SE 7 to author to a DVD, I go to [New Project] [Add video files]. In the [Open video file] window the default option to Files type is all formats but the .VSP format does not show up. When I select [All Files] the .VSP files are available. Then I select the project I want and choose Open I get an error "Unable to open "filename.VSP" File format mismatch.
I thought a VideoStudio project could be loaded but I must be doing something wrong.
Any guidance?
Thanks in advance

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
Unfortunately, MF 7 SE cannot "see" X3 project files. It was brought out about two years ago, well before X3 was ever on the horizon, and was linked at the time with VS X2. But when Corel re-issued it as an SE version to work with X3, they never made the upgrade for it to be able to accept X3 projects.
So you have two choices. Either, in X3, when you finish editing, your convert your project to a new video file (Share > Create Video File). Then insert that new file in MF 7 SE.
Or, when you finish editing in X3 and really want a project file for whatever reason which will work with MF 7, then File > Save As, and click on the little downward pointing arrow to the right of the little window where you give the project a name, and select Video Studio X2 as the format. (It will also allow you to save as a VS11 project...) Then insert that project file in MF 7 SE...
The only thing to bear in mind is that if you have used aspects of X3 which are unique to it (such as the new P-in-P filter), then when you save it as an X2 project file, those aspects of the editing will be lost.

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
Thanks for the info. I am used to completing a project and saving it to MPEG then finishing off with DVD MovieFactory 6 as you suggested. I was thinking that as long as DVD MovieFactory SE 7 was semi-integrated with VideoStudio and the help files suggest that this is an option I would give it a try. Oh well. I'll keep on doing the projects as I used to.
Thanks again, and now I won't have to go nuts trying to figure it out.

Hi, I tried this option and when you save as a VS11 project, it still gets saved as a VSP file which X3 won't read. Any ideas???Ken Berry wrote:Or, when you finish editing in X3 and really want a project file for whatever reason which will work with MF 7, then File > Save As, and click on the little downward pointing arrow to the right of the little window where you give the project a name, and select Video Studio X2 as the format. From what I understand...
1. You're using VS X3, created a project.
2. You saved the project (File save as), as a VS 11 project file, which is a VSP file.
3. You then tried to open that same VSP file (saved as a VS11) in VS X3 and it would not?
4. You then tried to insert that same VSP file as a video file in VS X3 and it would not?
I'm really not sure which you tried to do, #3 or #4?
I created a project in VS X3, saved it as a VS11 project file (VSP). Next I closed VS X3, then re-launched it, and was able to open that same VSP file. I then started a new project and was able to insert that VSP file as a video file. I then took this further by testing to see if I could insert this VSP file into DVD MF7 (pro, as I don't have the SE version installed). I was able to insert it, so I then went further, and launched VS X2, then VS11, and was able to open the VSP file (as a project) and also insert it as a video file. I was also able to insert the VSP file into the burn modules of VS X2 and VS11.
In your VSP (project) what sort of clips are you using? Does it contain just images, or just video clips or a combination? What type of video files, and where did they originate, camcorder, internet or DVD?

Hi, sorry for the confusion.
I created a VS11 VSP file in Videostudio Pro X3 and tried to add this file into Moviefactory 7 SE which wouldn't recognize the file.
thx

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
Hello,
I can confirm the same problem. There is no way that I can insert a VSP from X3 to MF7 SE.
I have tried the save as MPEG file.. still working on it..

Now I'm really confused.
Recently upgraded to VS Pro X3 & have MF7 SE installed. My first project in VS X3 will consist of p in p filters & some new X3 features.
Once I've completed the editing, don't I "render" then go to Share > Create Video File? Wouldn't the project that I just completed & rendered show up in MF7 SE?
I don't ever recall going to Share > Create Video File without first rendering my project before going to the Share > Create Video File.
Thanks,
Rich

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
I am sorry to say that that indeed seems to be the case!!Now I'm really confused.

But in fact you render precisely *by* going to Share > Create Video File!Once I've completed the editing, don't I "render" then go to Share > Create Video File?

Wouldn't the project that I just completed & rendered show up in MF7 SE?
And yes again, that new file you have just rendered would indeed be usable in MF 7 SE. But you have again confused some things. Rendering produces a new video clip, and it is *that* and NOT the *project* file which goes into MF 7 SE. Moreover, your use of "show up" implies that you think that it will appear automatically in MF 7 SE. It does not. First you do your editing in X3. Then, still in X3, you render your edited project into a new video clip (Share > Create Video File). Then you select Share > Create Disc to open the burning module. There, you are presented with two choices: DVD Factory Pro 2010 and MF 7 SE. If you choose the latter, X3 will close and MF 7 will open. You have to manually insert the new video file you have created in X3 into the MF 7 burning timeline. Nothing will appear there automatically. In any case, as has been stressed in this thread, MF 7 SE cannot recognise X3 *project* files (.vsp), but it can, of course, accept the new *video* file.

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
Thanks Ken, I got it.
One other question, can we copy our "Gallery" from VS X2 & paste to MF7 SE? Itried it but doesn't work. Is there another way? I remember we could copy & paste from VS 12 to VS Pro X2.
Programs >Corel > Corel VideoStudio 12 > Content > Menu Template > 4x3 > One Scene Button
Thanks

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
I don't understand the comments about MF7 not being able to open X3 projects (VSP files), although I'm also experiencing the same difficultly. All of the documentation states that this is supposed to be possible. MF7 Help states: "Corel DVD MovieFactory allows you to add video files of different formats such as AVI, MPEG, and WMV into your video project. You can also add a VideoStudio project (*.VSP)." The printed material also states that this is supposed to be possible. The Release Notes for X3 SP1 states that integration with MF7 SE has been added as a "step up" for those who want something better than DVD Factory 2010. Is this something for which Corel intends to release a fix?

That's correct, a video file is different than a VSP file. VSP is a VideoStudio Project File, in simple terms, it's like a text file, instructions to be carried out when you render your project to a video file
You can also add a VideoStudio project (*.VSP)." The printed material also states that this is supposed to be possible.
Again this is correct. When DVD MF7 Pro was released VS X3 was not on the table yet. So the version of VS project files (VSP) it will accept must be prior to VS X3. DVD MF7SE will accept VS 11, and VS X2 VSP files
The Release Notes for X3 SP1 states that integration with MF7 SE has been added as a "step up" for those who want something better than DVD Factory 2010. Is this something for which Corel intends to release a fix?
About the only way it is integrated with VS X3, is the link provided in the menu when you click on Share>Create Disc. Once you select DVD MF7SE, VS X3 will close, the project file (VSP) will not be automatically carried into DVD MF7SE. It's unknown if Corel will provide a patch for DVD MF7SE, allowing it to accept VS X3 project (VSP) files.

Re: VideoStudio Project into MovieFactory 7 SE
Man oh man what an infurioratingly misleading and frustrating thread. There are so many false fits and starts and either purposeful or incompetant statements being made here that my head just about explodes!!! It's like trying to follow the Warren Report. Now, from the start, let's get to the bottom of this ONCE AND FOR ALL! The question is:
Not being able to process ANY VSPro version project files in SE is a very serious shortfall. And from what I can tell, being unable to process these project files then eliminates our ability to create DVD chapters and such which also can't be done in VSPro3 because they don't carry over to MF7SE either!
So, in a previous message by you in a thread titled: Movie factor7 Se and Movie factory 7 Pro you can add several more missing features in this utterly incomplete list in this utterly incomplete and purposfully crippled excuse of a VSPro3 component:
Then after a few dead-end and misunderstood and clarifying back and forths to such a simple question, you come up with:AlphaDood wrote:I am trying to Add a VideoStudio project .VSP to DVD Moviefactory SE 7. I created the project in VS x3 and then saved the project. I selected MovieFactory SE 7 to author to a DVD, I go to [New Project] [Add video files]. I thought a VideoStudio project could be loaded but I must be doing something wrong...Dwayne
No, what you say is incorrect. MF7SE WILL NOT accept ANY .VSP formatted project files. Period. Not only does the dialog entry box not display the acceptance of .VSP files (which puts into question your claim that it did accept pre-V3 files) is also will NOT accept VSPro3 projects saved in V2 or V11 formats. That fact that you say you can save in your non-SE version MF7 is not the question here and is irrelevant to us SE users!Ron P. wrote:mbstayman wrote:I don't understand the comments about MF7 not being able to open X3 projects (VSP files), although I'm also experiencing the same difficultly. mbstayman's complaint about bogus release notes on the utterly crippled version of MF7SE in VSPro3 is CORRECT! Your response that this semi-integration between the products consists of "in the menu when you click on Share>Create Disc" is hardly consolation to those of us stuck with this deviously mis-labled and 10% working POS!Ron P. wrote:mbstayman wrote: The Release Notes for X3 SP1 states that integration with MF7 SE has been added as a "step up" for those who want something better than DVD Factory 2010. Time-line is not available, only Storyboard
Burn.now, Label@Once (I think) are not included
A bug in MF7 when importing mp4 files produced by VS Pro X3

Since no project imports, no chapter editing either.

Just like what Black Lab said DMF 7 SE does not support VSP files, that is why you will get an error if try. To properly guide you on how to create a disc using VS X3 and DMF 7 SE, you can just follow the steps in this KB corel.force.com/index/articles/en_US/Master_Article/764534-How-to-burn-your-project-in-VideoStudio-Pro-X3-using-DVD-Movie-Factory-7SE
