I am using VideoStudio Pro X2 to process captured video and burn it to DVD. The video look fine on my computer monitor (even full screen), but when I view them on a large-screen lcd tv, they have faint scrolling bars that move from top to bottom. Is there any way to fix those?
On a separate but related topic...
Are there any tutorials out there that are specifically for VS filtering and production issues like this one? I want to become more knowledgeable about this whole area, but I can find only very general tutorials.
Thanks, again, for your help.

Hi
Can you give us further details regarding your source video, its properties, the type of video, then give the properties you used to render/create the DVD.
There is a post at the top of this forum giving details of just what you can tell us.
PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING!!!
The more info you provide the better for us to give a suitable reply

Re: Scrolling Bars
Sure. I've been using:
Video Studio Pro X2 on Windows 7. The video was captured as an MP2 file with a Dazzle DVC 100 from a videotape. The quality of the captured video is excellent when previewed on the computer.
I've used VideoStudio Pro X2 to produce video in two different formats -- as an MP4 file and as a standard 4:3 DVD (720 x 480) with Video Studio's DVD wizard. Both have the scrolling bars that I mentioned when viewed on an LCD widescreen TV.
The only filter or setting that I've changed is to add the DeNoise filter to the video. Beyond that, everything is a straight flow-through in Video Studio -- no changes to settings or options.
It might also help to break out my question a bit:
- Why would the video look really good, even when viewed full screen with Media Player and not on the LCD TV?
- Are there other filters or options that I can try?
- Are there resources that I can use to learn about the technical side of VS? I read replies about options like field order and other technical settings inside the program, but don't have a clue on how to read up about them. I read the manual that came with the program and did some online tutorials, but I want to become informed at the next level about VideoStudio's options and settings.

Re: Scrolling Bars
Could be because the monitor is showing the video in frame-based format (not interlaced). Could it be that you burned your project as interlaced (Upper Field or Lower Field First)? Since you are viewing it on a LCD TV you might want to try burning it as frame-based (non interlaced). Why would the video look really good, even when viewed full screen with Media Player and not on the LCD TV?

Hi
Keeping on the Field Order theme…….
Video Tape footage would normally be Upper Field First.
The default DVD templates used by Video Studio use Lower Field.
Changing the field order from Upper to Lower will degrade quality.
Can you right click an original clip in the timeline, select properties, What are they?
Using Make Movie Templates Manager—Add function create a template using your videos properties. Using this from Share Create Video File will render the project to the correct properties.
Use the resultant video file to burn a DVD.

Re: Scrolling Bars
Thank you all for your replies. They were VERY helpful.
The video was interlaced. I went to frame-based. The Make Movie template manager was set to really low quality. The combination of settings produced a much better video. I have a couple of other questions, but I have bookmarked the tutorials link that was provided, and I'm going to go through a bunch of the tutorials to make certain the answer isn't in there before I ask the question. Please consider this closed until I finish reading some of the tutorials. Thanks again for your help.
