Ulead Video Studio DVD SE Help

Post by Shifty »

Hi, new to the forum. I've recently run into some problems with this program and my easycap. I've recorded lots of things with the easycap in the past without problems. The other day, when I tried clicking the capture video button, the program froze. There was also no video in the preview. Today, I tried playing some of the videos I recorded (not edited or rendered) with Windows Media Player and I'm getting a codec error. But, the videos I edited and rendered could open with WMP. Are the two problems related? I've tried going to Add/Remove programs and getting rid of Video Studio and reinstalling it. But, some of the previous project clips were still inside the program after reinstallation. Does that mean I'm not uninstalling it right? After that didn't work, I tried installing a newer version of Windows Installer after reading about some similar problems with WMP. Help?

Hi,

What version of VS are you talking about?

Have all updates been aplied?

Direct X Updated,

Proxy files disabled?

This is a Video Studio Forum not Easy Cap forum?

Have you tried usin VLC to play your videos?

What codec error are you getting?

We really need a little more info on what type/properties of video and info above to assist in resolving your problem.

Welcome to the forums,

First could you please complete your system information in your Profile via the User Control Panel. You can download the free utility called Belarc Advisor to learn that information. This could be important, as application freezing could be caused by lack of free space on a HDD, or not enough RAM, or a variety of other things.
But, some of the previous project clips were still inside the program after reinstallation. Does that mean I'm not uninstalling it right?
No, that's not what that means. If you did not specify a different working folder (found in the File>Preferences settings), VS relinked to the default working folder. This also involves the system registry. There are directions for a complete uninstall/re-install found HERE.

USB video capture devices are hit & miss. This is partly due to the behavior of USB. Nowadays it is very common to have numerous USB ports on a PC. The more ports you're using the greater the risk of the video capture failing. For example if you have a USB mouse, USB pen tablet, USB external HDD, and then a USB capture device all connected and using, the system will try to provide each of them access to the Buss. It does not know that the capture device should have uninterrupted access. Your system will "pole" continually all of the devices. There's really no certain or definitive answer to fixing video capture with these USB devices.

Try completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program(s) associated with your Easycap device. Try a full cold reboot of your system, shut it down, unplug it, let it set for a minute or two, then plug in your Easycap device and then boot-up your system. Try booting up your system, then plug in your Easy cap, see if it gets recognized by your system, and the program. It's going to take some trial and error experimenting. You might also to a Google search for Easycap problems, as I'm sure you're not alone with these problems. Some people however have no problems using them, while others, like you, get a fair share of headaches..;)
