X3 and VS2010 freeze- not usable

Post by msuplantdoc »

Hello,
I upgraded from X2 to X3 so I could edit and create short movies in HD with AVCHD Lite files from a Panasonic digicam. X2 usually worked fine with Lite files converted in Handbrake to MP4-H264. In X3, I can edit the Lite files nicely in either X3 or VS2010, which I prefer to use for simplicity. However, when I try to create AVCHD output files in either program, the render will freeze the program at some point. In, X3, I receive the error message "unknown error, send .......dmp file to tech support. I can't even find the requested file. I contacted tech support with this issue. They suggested installing all the patches and updates, which I did. I also updated the last known video driver. No luck. However, files converted with Koyote soft, video converter plus 2.8 to their preset HD MP4-h264 at max kbps may or may not convert. I have a Gateway with an AMD Phenom 9500, 3 gigs ram, ATI Radeon HD2400xt video card. I want to create AVCHD files because they will play in HD on my bluray player when burned to a DVD as data files. No need to create a full blown movie disk. X2 also create very good DVDs from converted files. At this point, X3 is not functional and too late for refund. I thought the X3 package would be a nice upgrade, but it has been a disaster. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Also tried turning off "smart render" and hardware acceleration...no difference.

Ok - try disable Smart proxy!!

Advise exactly what version you have to ensure all updates are applied.

Update Direct X

Disable Hyperthreading in Bios

I have version 13.6.2.21 after applying all upgrades suggested by Corel support. Strangely, I was able to render a 4 minute movie in X3 to either the HD mp4 or hd wmv choices in "output video file". The fan in the PC really kicked in high speed and the rendering from AVCHD lite files was slow. I hope I can repeat this because I can at least show either format from my WD HD player. A small, very portable device that will show a variety of video and pic formats to a HD tv via HDMI connector. A new model is available for about $100 with remote. Also, my bluray player will show the files from a flash memory drive. Too bad about AVCHD because I could distribute disks to friends with bluray players. Even X2 is not reliable now for this purpose from converted AVCHD lite files. What does hyperthreading do exactly? My computer knowledge is just moderate. Also, I noticed Corel video loads a couple of files at startup. I experience considerable ongoing drive activity (up to 5 minutes) for quite a while after boot. When these two (maybe 3 files) are turned off, the drive activity quickly ceases. Task manager indicates no programs are running, but about 70 processes. I also turned off indexing for both 500 gig drives. While I have years of experience with Photoshop, I am finding that video (formats, codecs, rendering, etc) makes Photoshop seem very basic and reliable.

thanks

Although I have had no trouble outputting to AVCHD, I have also found that with X3 you can output to a Blu-Ray folder on your hard disk. Then you can just go into the STREAM sub-folder of the BDMV folder and copy the video onto an external hard drive or USB stick, or even possibly play the folder on your computer as a Blu-Ray disk -- in my case I use the Sony PlayStation 3 as my player of choice, networked via HDMI to my HDTV. But I assume your WD will also see and play a Blu-Ray folder...

Still no luck with creating AVCHD movie files from AVCHD lite files in x3. However, I can create mp4 HD files by selecting mpeg4 hd file output. These will play very nicely on my bluray and WD HD player from USB flash or portable HD. However, I have discovered that trying to create a DVD or AVCHD disk in Factory 7SE doesn't work properly. Each movie file being compiled is cut by about 50%. File info in 7SE indicates the files are 60 fps, which is not correct. Other software, including mediainfo, reports 30 fps. Conversion quality is excellent but not usable at 50% length. Disk creating in x2 works OK but the output quality is poor with excessive artifacts and jaggies. I guess I need to try creating movies in wmv format and then try creating a disk from those. Very frustrating and time consuming.

This is the third virtually identical post on this subject from you I have read on three different forums in less than two minutes. That is getting a bit annoying -- and of course risks confusing others. Someone might respond in one forum, and someone else in a different forum.

That being said, have you tried creating a custom template for outputting your AVCHD Lite files. You do that in X3 by going to Settings > Make Movie Template Manager. Then, in the dialogue box which appears, click 'Add'. A new -- and slightly unhelpful -- dialogue box appears. In the top little window (File Path) you click on the anonymous button beside it (...) and navigate to where you have one of your original Lite files stored and select that. Then give it a name in the lower window. Click OK then Close to close those two dialogue boxes. Your new template should now appear down in the very bottom of the drop down menu which appears when you select Share > Create Video File. Do not attempt ever to edit that new template's properties or it will simply revert to a default SD DVD template.

Let us know (hopefully in only one forum!) how that goes...
