Hi,
I have been using VS for many years but I'm a bit new to HD editing. I am using Pro x2 upgraded with the service pack. The latest DirectX is installed and I have tried a repair on VS.
Playing individual clips, no problem but when playing the project, the preview slows and becomes hesitant and jerky. After a few seconds playback usually stops and VS crashes. Not being able to play the project means I can not see the effect of other tracks, titles, sound etc.
The camera is a Sony HDR-SR8E and the files (m2ts, moff and modd) were loaded to the computer via USB (the camera does not have Firewire) using the supplied Sony Picture Motion Browser and the files were registered (what ever that means). I then loaded the files onto the VS timeline a few at a time as it will not allow me to load all at once.
Should the camera video files and VS be on the same drive? They are on separate drives at the moment.
I have run out of ideas and would be grateful for any help.
Nick

Hi
are you using Smart Proxy. File-Preferences
Check the Smart Proxy Manager to see is proxy files have been created (tools - Smart proxy Queue and manager)
A small icon is visible on the clip when files have been generated.
I cannot remember if this option is ON by default

Trevor,
Thanks for your reply.
I can confirm that the Smart Proxy symbol above the timeline is on and ticked. Smart Proxy is on in File/Preferences. In the file manager proxy files have been created but there are no files in proxy queue manager. There are no icons on the clips apart from the sound track icon.
I hope that helps.

Re: VS Pro x2 hesitant project playback
Further information -
the Smart Proxy File Manager shows that proxy files are being created but they do not appear in the Queue Manager,
I can select clips in the project, right click and select Create Smart Proxy File and then eventually the proxy file icon appears on the clips. The project then plays smoothly with no hesitations. I then save the project but when it is reloaded the proxy icons on the clips are missing and the Create Smart Proxy Files has to be done again which takes at least an hour on 1 hour of clips. This is unusable.
The problem seems to be that proxy files have been created but how can I get them to appear in the queue manager?
