VStudio Pro X3 and MP4 720p/60fps output format?

Post by Goble »

Hi,

I'm evaluating VStudio Pro X3 to author Kodak Zi8 HD videos

Just posted another thread how to solve the Kodak's MOV quickTime file format problem for VStudio by remuxing MOV files as MP4 files. That problem being solved, there is still one problem with VSStudio compared to Pinnacle Studio 14. I like the 720p/60fps format of Kodak Zi8 because it creates smooth videos even when kids are running back-and-forth in the backyard or I'm panning the camera.

However, am I right that there is no way to render (smart rending preferrably if source is already in that format) 720p/60fps MP4 files with VStudio?

VS let's me choose only 30fps format for 720p. Googling relealed some hints of creating a custom profile to generate 720p/60fps outputs, but it was for VStudio Pro X2 version. I don't know how to do the same in X3 version, which seems odd if this is supposed to be newer and improved version.

Please see the discussion on http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... highlight= thread. It explains how to do custom template from an existing file but something is missing or I'm doing something wrong because I don't see where I could enter 60 fps value.

Pinnacle Studio 14 supports 720p/60fps format, but I'd like to purchase Corel VStudio because I'm used to it after using ULead VideoStudio 8 for years with SD videos.

Is there a way to do 720p/60fps with VStudioProX3? If not then is it coming in the next version/upgrade/patch version? Or am I forced to move over to Pinnacle studio because the eval version of PS14 seemed to do the job (even by using original MOV file format without remuxing it first to MP4 format, but that's not a showstopper for me if VStudio could do 60 fps).

I dont burn DVD or BD disks because I use these rendered output files directly from a mediaserver with LCD televisions, so BD/DVD standards are not limiting my options.

thanks for all the inside tips you may have.

Thanks for the suggestion of using "Same as First Video" in Share step. I wasn't even aware of that option, but it is because it is grayed out with my videos.

From another thread on this forums I learned that this "same as first video clip" option is available only for certain type of video files. "Same as first video" option is grayed out even when using the Corel's sample VMW video files as the first clip.

Anyway, "VS Pro X3" doesnt seem to support this option with MP4/h264 video files no matter whether the MP4 is 30fps or 60fps or 720p or 1080p file. I tested h264/aac encoded MP4 files with 30fps and 60fps test videos. The option remained grayed out unless the first clip was mpeg2 video file (mpeg or ts with mpeg2 video stream), but I'd like to render as 720p/h264/aac/60fps MP4 output files. VSProX3 seems to be stuck with 30fps h264 720p and 1080p files.

Well, PinnacleStudio14 eval version supports h264/aac/60fps MP4 output files but I like VStudio GUI more. Anyone from Corel with inside info about upcoming features? Is 720

Hi

Ok just another thought
Have you tried creating your own template
Tools-Make Movie template Manager-Add function - Browse for your file.

If it allows this do not edit the template, simply close.

The template will show near the custom optionin Share Create Video File.

The "another thought" was almost there, but not quite.

I had previously tried the "Template Manager - Add - Browser to video file" trick, but the browse button refused to use MP4 or MOV files as video property sources. I guess this limitation goes through the same filter for source file formats as "same as first video clip" option.

However, then I thought to give a try and used FFMPEG cmdline to re-mux the file as h264/aac/720p/60fps video file within AVI container. Well, this worked better. This time template manager accepted the 720p/60 AVI file source and recognized 720p - 60 fps format. However, it also stuck with AVI output extension with uncompressed raw RGB file (huuuuuuuge file size).

Then i tried to edit the template, but AVI container had nothing but DV and MPEG (and few MS specific) compression options. This is understandable because officially AVI container doesn't recognize h264 compression.

So, still no luck with VS. Don't wanna go through the option of creating uncompressed 720p/60fps AVI files and then transcoding it to MP4 format with FFMPEG or MENCODER cmdline tools. Too much wasted diskspace and time. Anyway, thanks for the ideas.
