Activating plug-ins with X3

Post by klobo »

I have installed my plug-ins (C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN\PlugIns - per email instructions from Corel) and used preferences/file locations to show PSPX3 where to locate the files. I have checked the boxes to enable the programs. However, when I go to effects menu all I get is a grayed-out line stating "no plug-ins loaded". Corel's techies don't seem to know what the problem is. Can anyone help? I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate if that makes a difference. Thank you. Bruce

Bruce,

I do not know what type of plug-in you have but:

Preferences, File locations,

is Limit .8B checked under Plug-in File folders checked or unchecked?

That is assuming you are using EN as your language and not IE

I am using EN, which I assume refers to ENglish.

I have tried it both with "8B" checked and unchecked with the same results - "No Plugins Loaded".

This is really annoying because our friends at Corel don't think it's a subject worth mentioning in the downloadable user manual, especially since they no longer provide a printed manual with their software. I can't speak for you guys, but I find it much easier to have a printed manual on my desk than to flip back and forth between screens when I'm trying to figure things out. It's probably a generational thing since I'm old enough to remember when Univac was announced.

I really appreciate the help. Any other suggestions?

Plugins can be anywhere on your computer as long as File locations points to them. Are these by chance the KPT bundled Free plugins. Which by rights would be install automatically. Have you checked to see If they are where there supposed to be and that the path is correct ?.

These are Alien Skin plug-ins and, yes, they are filed where I am indicating to the computer/software. In fact, I have them in two locations - one in the Corel Plug-ins folder and redundantly in a separate Programs/Alien Skin folder. I get the same results whether I direct "File Locations" to the Corel Plug-in folder or the Alien Skin folder.

Thank you,

I have all boxes checked: "Enable Plug-ins...", "Limit...8B", "Allow...Pre-filtering", plus Folder Options: "Enable" and "Use Sub-Folders".

I have shut down PSPX3 AND done a total "cold" reboot of the computer. Same result. "No Plugins Loaded".

Well all I can say Is i use Eye candy without problem on my computer so it cant be the filters Though mine are In a Plugin filter folder on a Separate partition and can even be used/accessed over my network on the second computer/laptop.
Silly question, during the install did you get any Messages from the Alien skin Installer, As I believe it will need to be directed to the corel folder as its first chose is the Photoshop folder. These Plugins need a proper install as they include Registry entries Not simply placed in the plugin folder

BINGO!

THANKS, Trev! Your email reminded me of something. I had had a mother board problem and had to have it replaced. This necessitated reinstalling all of my programs. While I was reinstalling the various software, the new PSPX3 software was delivered so I installed it instead of PSPX2. It was at this point that I started having trouble accessing Alien Skin. Since I had never had a problem with the Alien Skin programs it never occurred to me that the problem might be with them and not PSPX3. After reading your email the proverbial light bulb came on over my head. I removed the Alien Skin programs and reinstalled them. VIOLA! Problem solved!

Thank you for your kind assistance. I REALLY appreciate your time and effort.

Have a GREAT day!

Bruce
