Last month I bought a new Sony DSC-H55 which shoots Hi Def movies in 720p. The past few days I've put a few clips in VideoStudio Pro X2 but having problems. In the preview mode the clips seem to be jerky when panning or zooming in & out which is how the clips were taken. I can understand why the clips may be jerky in preview mode but what i don't undertsand is when i render these clips for DVD or VOB files (which takes about 25min for a 12min video) the results are just as jerky or even worst than the preview mode. I've read a few reviews on this site which suggest that you convert your clips to Mpeg2 or some other format. What I don't undertand is why VideoStudio Pro X2 can't look after this in the rendering. Is it that the software can't handle the high def clips? I've done many movies with my old Sony camera and never had a problem. Is there a new version of VideoStudio Pro X2 coming out in the future which can handle all types of video clips without having to convert all my movie clips to Mpegs, avi,Etc.
Note: When I play the actual clip without VideoStudio Pro X2 - there's no problem - Only when I play it in VideoStudio Prox2 and when I create the Disk or files. I've tried the disk any 3 DVD players with the same results.
Here's the properties I get when I right click on the clip in VideoStudio Prox2
File Format: MPEG-4
Video Type: Unknown
Attributes: 24 Bits, 1280x720
Frame Rate: 29.970
Data Rate: 9000kps
So after all that i have three questions.
1) Do I have to convert all my video clips to get rid of the jerky panning?
2) Why can't VideoStudio Pro X2 handle these clips in the rendering process?
3) If you put in various clips from different cameras will VideoStudio Prox2 create a smooth result?
I know this is a long question but i want to make sure I've listed all things you may require in helping you with the answer.

Hi and a warm welcome to the Forum,
I think your camera is recording to AVCHD-Lite. VS x2 was out before that format was widely used and has real problems with it. May I suggest that you download the TBYB version of VS x3 which handles this format better!

Do you have Smart Proxy enabled? Considering your computer specs you have to do so to work with HD. But beware that having Smart Proxy enabled still might not be enough when using a P4.

Thanks for the quick replys. Looks like I'll have to get Video Studio Pro X3 unless I get anymore suggestions.

Re: jerky when panning-VideoStudio ProX2
Again, I don't think X3 will help when trying to edit HD MPEG-4 on a P4. These highly compressed file types are CPU intensive. It takes a lot of number crunching to decode them. The problem is your computer, not the software.

Hi JR
High definition video generally uses Upper Field Order, although it may be Frame Based.
Video Studios default templates for creating a standard DVD file (Mpeg 2) uses Lower Field.
Right click an original clip in the timeline / library and select properties, view the field order.
Post the property details here.
So what process and what properties were used to convert your video to DVD.
Options
1 / VS – tools-‘make movie templates manager’ allows you to create your own templates.
2 / From Share Create Video File-choose the ‘custom’ option to set your own properties.
3 / If you do Share Create Disc-choose the ‘Options’ cogwheel-lower left to set your convert properties.
And as Jeff asked are you using Smart Proxy, have proxy files been created, view the Smart Proxy Manager files.
