Too-loud volume of menu's "background" music

Post by Janet »

I have searched this forum for "loud," "volume," and "menu," and haven't found any answers to this question.

In Movie Factory 7 SE, the "background" music on the menus is much too loud. I've been using the menu with the northern scene (snow-covered evergreen trees) in the background with room for 8 video thumbnails, with 06_Music21.mpa, one of the music files that came with MF 7SE. On the menu preview there's a way to turn down the volume, but that works only for preview; when you write your project to DVD and play the DVD, the menu music is blasting loud -- much louder than the volume of the videos -- no matter what your preview volume is set to. :x I've played the DVDs on two different machines with the same result. I've looked all over the software and tried the help (no help) and can't find a solution.

Is there any way to lower the background music volume on this (and other) menus in MF 7 SE?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

They've got the volume adjustment hidden in plain sight...:)

You need to Preview, then beneath the preview screen on the left, you should see a speaker icon. Click on it and the volume adjustment will open.

I just made a DVD with Movie Factory 7 SE this morning. When playing the DVD in my DVD player, there is menu sound but no sound for the videos which I have in the menu. Is there a fix for this? The videos were avi files.

If you're referring to the videos being used in the menu, no there is not. I think if you have background music for your menus, adding the audio for the "thumbnail"/video menu buttons, and/or video used as background for your menus, would muddle things up.

You could in VS, create a sound file from the video clip that you're using as a menu. Then in DVD MF, insert that as your background music/audio, however it's not possible to have both background music, and the audio playing in video being used in the menus.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the tip, but as mentioned in my original post, I did try lowering the volume via the adjustment you mentioned in Preview mode but that works only in Preview mode -- i.e., it lowers the volume of the menu "background" music only when you preview the menu on your computer. :(

However, when you commit your video to DVD and play it on a DVD player (I tried it on two different machines), the menu volume is again very high even though the preview volume was low.

Is there some way to get Movie Factory 7 SE to pay attention to the preview volume setting when rendering the menu to DVD?

Thanks for any help,
Janet
