Smart render
I posted this question recently in the MF 7SE forum because I tought the MS would know the answer, but got no answer. I used to apply SR with my Sony camera's AVCHD footage. Now I use Panasonic camera's (GH1 and TM700). and I need to uncheck SR, otherwise I get problems. The TM700 footage even locks up when trying to render. Does somebody have an idea why the Panasonic files are so special?

Re: Smart render
Panasonic may be one of those that have their own, proprietary format.

Re: Smart render
Hi
Not sure why the Panasonic files are different.
I don’t use HD at the moment but am aware that it is recommended to disable Smart Render when working with these types.
Smart render works for similar videos, that is converting Mpeg 2 to same properties Mpeg 2
or Dv-Avi to Dv-Avi.
If your converting AVCHD to another format Smart Render should have no effect, other than causing you problems.
So if you change the bit rate by one from say 8000 to 7999 then smart render will have little effect as every frame has to be re-coded.
Best to disable it anyway.

Re: Smart render
Thanks for the reply. The lock-up with the TM700 footage happen when redering AVCHD camcorder footage to an AVCHD file, even when accepting the "MPEGoptimizer" settings. The optimiser only suggests to change the project settings bitrate to 16800kbs instead of 18000kbs. When looking into the mediafile it all looks very much the same, appart from the number of reference files used. I think VS is optimised for the Sony flavor of AVCHD compression only...I will uncheck SR with panasonic edits. It all takes somewhat longer to render and a rerender potentially introduces extra artifacts...
