Please- need help with rendering to HD!!

Post by honeyphan »

*Edited to remove links that no longer work since I removed video, etc.
*Edited again, because the problem no longer exists and I have my answer.
Thanks to all who helped! 8)

Hi- I just joined here and have run into a problem.

I've spent the past two days- straight- trying to get a good quality HD video to youtube. My problem is my videos usually have a bit of lag or aren't clear and crisp (picture and transitions) or they stop and start (loading as they're playing) which is frustrating when you want to watch and not play "let's wait and see".
I've seen HD videos that have none of these problems, so I know it's possible to create them. I'm hoping it's also possible with Corel. :?:

I use Videostudio Pro X2 - and downloaded Windows Media Video 9 last night to try to help with this. I've made approx. 15 test tries- rendering at different bit rates, qualities, speed, files, etc, to try to achieve what I want (since I am virtually clueless when it comes to settings) - my music videos sometimes move fast- very short clips- and I especially don't want them to catch or lag when that happens. I have this problem in both HQ and HD- the one time I tried it. Because it didn't work well, I never tried again- but I really want to make HD vids.

The thing is, when I render- it's always smooth as silk and hits dead on. Then I put it on youtube, and no go. So I figured I must be rendering the wrong way or under a wrong file... I want HD or at least the HD look- full screen- as all my vids are. My HQ are also full screen. So nothing with a ratio of 320 X 240, etc, will work. It has to be 720 X 1280.

Can someone please tell me what settings to use and how to render to get the smooth as silk high quality HQ and HD that I want, no matter how fast the clips and transitions move??? Thanks if you can! The videos above are all in MPG2- though my trials have been in that and Avi. MPG-4 is too jerky in HD and badly pixelated. I want the best I can get, if anyone can advise me???

thanks! 8)

Before we go too far, I have just run your video and it is fine. Smooth with no jerks or interruptions. But I have to ask. Where did you get the original clips from, they look like commercial quality tome. Are you certain you are not breaching the rules of YOU TUBE?
Also your link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GBF4Ep7O2s does not work. It appears you have removed it!

Thank you for your response. The video ran well on your computer? I wonder why it doesn't on mine...very strange...other people's music videos look really good in both HD and HQ, but mine catch (don't play smooth all the way through) when watching on mine or don't load right in HD, etc...And I'm sorry- I removed that vid. With each test I run, when it doesn't work, I then remove the vid and try another. Sorry I did that after posting my question...I edited my post to remove the link. (blush)
As to the other, thanks for your concern. I did a lot of reading up on vid making before starting this hobby. In America, we have something called the Fair Use Copyright Act law. Using such things for personal and/or non-profit use, etc. And I cite that in my description when posting. I have even run 3 of my videos through Youtube copyright dispute acts- and won all three. In other words, the powers that be at Youtube saw my videos and how I present them, saw they were indeed Fair Use, and allowed them, giving me the right to show them. They also sent it to the original companies first, who also watched and allowed them- part of the process of a dispute act. (Youtube allowed it to be shown immediately, but it took weeks before I got a final answer - that I won.) Many have come to realize it gains them more viewers/ listeners, I think. I've had countless people write to me in my comments and say "I have got to buy that song/CD now" or "I've got to see that show" or a recent one I had "I heard about it before, but after watching your video I definitely have to see it now!"- I, myself, have become a supporter (buying products) of some music groups through watching Youtube fanmade vids (music groups I never knew existed before seeing those fanmade vids on YT) and have bought movies I have seen featured in fanmade vids, also never heard about before. Other friends I know do the same. So they are gaining free advertising through me and others, which means more money for them, and I think some companies have come to realize that and are now allowing fanmade vids if they don't breach Fair Use.

Thank you honeyphan for your detailed explanation. I'm now better informed on the subject but I don't know if similar "laws" apply in the UK. I'm not into that type of video work being an old fogey! I do like to keep up with modern trends though but I must admit I get a bit lost now and then with all the modern "text" speak. It looks like a foreign language to me.
Going back to you videos i will check again tomorrow to see how they look. I will try a snippet from all of yours and report beck.It does look at this stage as if it is your end where the problem is. Just for the hell of it try this :

I know this is getting off topic, but citing Fair Use as your basis for using copyrighted material is not valid. That would not get you far in court. Yes, using copyrighted material for your own use comes under Fair Use. Posting said copyrighted material to YouTube where millions of people can see it is not.

For more info you can read this article: http://www.videomaker.com/article/14261/

Please note that at the bottom of the article it states: "Editor's Note
Since Mr. Levy's story was first posted, as of late September 2009, Google (owner of YouTube) has now changed its rules regarding copyright. Google will begin to allow copyright content to remain up unless the copyright owner objects. This new decision comes in most part from a popular viral wedding dance video that has become Sony Music's 8th most popular song."

So you may be right when you say "Many have come to realize it gains them more viewers/ listeners". Hopefully you never run into the copyright owner who doesn't feel this way.

Thank you, John and Jeff! 8)
Yes, since the video goes through the copyright owners as the final step, and they view it and give the final decision, whether the dispute is won or lost, I think what I'm doing is considered allowable. I always give them full credit and I've won all 3 disputes I filed. Those that I didn't file because they went through, I usually get a notice that the vid is copyright claimed by whatever company BUT that it's allowed, and usually they put an ad up or something. Incidentally, while viewing someone's music vid the other day- I just found another band I'd never heard about and have to look into (and probably will end up buying MP3s or Cd's from! lol) - so the companies are definitely getting money from me and increasing their sales. :)
I also saw clips in a vid from a period movie I'd heard about but never saw (in another fanmade music video), so now I either want to get a rental or put it on my Christmas list! lol

Now- about my earlier problem...
I found a forum on making fanmade vids and came to realize when talking with the moderator there, who helped me with troubleshooting, that it is the speed of my computer that is causing the problem! :? It doesn't have enough RAM to watch HD smoothly (which really doesn't explain why I can watch other people's vids in HD, but oh well. *shrugs)... I also had my other questions answered, so I'll go back and edit my first post to show that. Thanks again, guys! I really appreciate your responses!

Can you post the links to your youtube videos here so we can all view them?

Thanks

Can you also confirm/update your PC spec's?

I would find it very strage that you would be operating on 1gb of ram?

You just find it strange to do so, or you find it strange that they are editing with 1gb of ram?
