Share step for vs prox2

Post by jimd »

I captured video from my Sony MiniDV Camcorder, 16GB AVI format. Edited, added chapters. I then proceeded to create a video file for future use. This should take about 12 hours to render. After two hours my notebook shut down, error message said 'not enough free space'. My computer actually had 46GB on my C drive and 94GB on my D working drive. HDs are 7200 rpm.
I decided to dispense with the video file for now and go straight to Burn DVD's. During this process I found that the simulation with the DVD remote the chapters would not highlight or respond, and the program froze. I had to use the task master to get out and try the process again to no avail.
I had moderate success with vs11 with chapters, but not many of my friends could use the chapters on the DVD I gave them.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi
Can you give further details regarding the video file?
How did you capture your video?
Did you use firewire and select DV as the capture format?
This would produce a file as Dv-Avi at about 13 Gb for one hour.

How long is your video to be 16Gb?

What are the properties of the video file, right click a clip in the timeline and select properties?
What compression type is being used?

What drive are your working folders using. There are two working folders, one for the editing accessed via file - preferences,
the other for the burner module via Settings and Options - Preferences(F6)

Thanks Trevor.
I did capture in DV-Avi, the 16GB program is 54 minutes long.
AVI file - open DML, file size 2,151,672KB
Video compression - DV Video Encoder Type 1, Attributes - 24 bits, 720x480 4:3
Audio compression - DV Audio NTSC, Attributes - 32,000 KHz, 12 bit stereo.
Working folder - D:\UleadMovies.
Burning folder? I clicked on Preferences F6 and the only tab that gave me a drive reference was the preveiw tab and the drive was C with 46,309MB free.

I admit to not understanding many of specs that you asked for other than DV, AVI and the file size so please bear with me.
Thanks again.
Jimd.

PS. I did use a fire wire and selected DV to capture.

Hi

Your captured files are standard DV-Avi as far as I can tell.
Why you see 16 Gb is a bit strange as one hour should be 13 Gb.

Please check your project properties from the file menu, they should reflect the video files, make sure the aspect ratio is 4:3.

When you render the project to a single video file what template are you using?
Share Create Video File and…….

1 / If you select Same as First Video, your project will render to Dv-Avi, makes sense, render should be relatively quick. (check the properties in the panel before hitting ‘save’)

2 / If you select DVD-NTSC DVD 4 :3 the file will be Mpeg 2 suitable for burning a DVD, render time longer than above.

Can you try rendering using option 1 above.
If it fails at what point does it fail, there may be a problem with the timeline content.
The next question will ask, what have you used in the timeline, additional clips, audio, transitions.

Burner Working folder.
Go to Share Create Disc, the burner module will open.
Icon lower left or F6—the working folder can be changed here.
And I don’t know why they use two working folders.

Read my guide to Dv-Avi from the link below, transpose the properties to use NTSC for US.

Trevor, thank you, thank you. This is the most user friendly DVD that I, with your help, have ever produced.

You are absolutely correct, my capture clips totalled 13GB for 54 minutes, I don't know where the 16GB figure came from.
Your Quick Guide was excellent, I liked your technique and learned many things. I read my ProX2 user guide twice since I upgraded and refered to it many times when I had problems but I could not find the answer. I did not know, for instance, that when I selected DVD at one point, I was selecting the compression rate. Perhaps I didn't need to know but I am a little wiser now.
Chapters. I read that the chapters are related to the Main Menu. At the preview stage of the share step I always had a problem accessing the chapter buttons that I had put in place. As I only had one clip in the in the Main Menu I found that I could uncheck the Main Menu selection in the gallery area, and as soon as I opened my program my Chapter buttons came up first thing. I know this may sound naive but perhaps it will help someone else who is at my stage of the learning curve.
I cannot thank you enough Trevor and I know I will have more issuse, until then, cheers!
Jimd.
