Video Studio ProX 2 Freezes during capture

Post by backinblack »

I have searched through the forums to see if some thing would help me out but could not find anything that really helps. I have a Canon HV30 and every time I try to capture it will capture for about 15 seconds and then freezes. I have to shut down the computer and restart all over again but it never captures. I have got another program and it captures completely most of the time but it also freezes. Is it the camera because some times I unplug the camera and you do hear the bump bump sound. It almost like it lost the driver for the camera. Computer info is to the right. Can any one help me shed some light on this? This is driving me nuts!

At least some of the capture problems seem to be attributable to recent Windows updates which interfered with drivers etc. Updating your DirectX to the latest versions seems to correct at least some of these problems.

But with your camcorder, I would not have thought there would be problems with VS... I have its predecessor, the HV20, and never experience any problems. Mind you, I have given up using VS for capture from it, but not because of any difficulties as such. It is just that VS cannot capture HDV and split it by scene during capture, which is what I want. Instead, I use a small freeware program called HDVSplit... You will need to do a Google search for it. But if you experience problems with it as well, then I would be starting to think there is some other problem e.g. a physical problem either with your Firewire card or cable, or else with the camcorder's Firewire output port...

That being said, I assume you *are* using Firewire to capture, and not USB... It *must* be via Firewire.

Thanks for the info Ken. I have updated to the latest DirectX and did not help. 1.4 seconds before it froze this time. Yes I am using Firewire. I have had this cable for 7 years and maybe there is some thing wrong with it. I used it for my other camera that was not HD and it worked fine. I am going to do baby steps and get me a new cable and if that does not work then a new card. Thanks for the help.

But have you tried HDVSplit as I suggested?
