Capture bitrate and DVD burning bitrate in VS10

Post by VinnyC »

Which bitrate is more important-the capture bitrate or the bitrate I burn my DVD at? I captured a 78 minute movie at 7300 and I burned it at 7000 to fit onto the DVD disc. The video quality looks pretty good. Do both capture and burning bitrates need to be the same? If I lowered the audio bitrate from 224 to 192 would that allow me to increase the video bitrate while keeping good audio quality? Thanks!

It's not much use trying to output a higher bitrate than the captured bitrate and I doubt anyone will notice much diference between 7,000 and 7,300.
I would suggest though that using the same bitrate would save time and a little bit of quality as no 2nd conversion is going to take place.

I was near the limit at 7300 and the burn failed even though I was just within the disc limit (4.26 out of 4.38). At 7000 the quality was pretty close to the source tape. I was able to get a 78 minute movie into a 7000 bitrate which I think is the average. Thanks for the reply! Everyone here is very helpful and I learn a lot from this forum. :D

I try to stick to 4gb per dvd, so using a bitrate calculator can be helpful, then capture at 7,000 if required to output at 7,000 etc.
