Project Preview--Full or Fill Screen

Post by Ron P. »

*****Why does everyone always refer back to the other playback - the one from the timeline? Doesn't anyone ever go to (or are aware of) SHARE and use PROJECT PLAYBACK available there? That is what I keep asking about and everyone avoids talking about it.
I use the Share>Project Playback>Preview Range quite often. I think that you're not fully understanding what we've been trying to explain to you. I asked in my previous post, what your Project Settings were, and you still have not provided them. Like Trevor and I both stated that in the Share>Project Playback, it uses the frame size of your Project. Now what resolution is your computer monitor set at? If your monitor's resolution is larger than that of your Project, then it will not fill the screen, not matter what program you use. It's really very simple, which is larger, 1440pxs, or 720pxs, 900pxs, or 480pxs? An image that is 720pxs wide X 480pxs tall, is going to be smaller than the monitor resolution of 1440pxs X 900pxs. The project will be displayed centered in your computer monitor in Share>Project Playback.

Now I will say this, if you're project frame size is greater than that of your computer monitor's resolution, then it should fill the screen, and if not there is something wrong somewhere, but without that information I'm guessing it is not.

Now as Trevor advised you, you can double-click on the preview window, and it will go to full screen. Doing it this way, it might fill the screen, depending on if you're project AND your PC monitor are using the same aspect ratios, but that is not a true representation of your project, as VS must up-scale the video to that of your computer monitor. If your project is 4:3 and you have a wide-screen PC monitor, then of course it will not fill the screen.

Setting Project Properties will allow playback in full screen if this is what you mean.

Full screen and Fill the screen are different. You can have a project that is only 320 x 240 play full screen, but it will not fill the screen. Bill is concerned that playing in full screen (Share>Project Playback) does not fill his screen. While changing the project properties so they match or are greater than that of your PC monitor's resolution will allow it to fill the screen while playing in full screen.

I think that since we have seriously derailed the original topic, I'm splitting these from the original topic to it's own..
