Video Capture Filter Fails to Initalize

Post by jlz0418 »

Since upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) and Video Studio Pro X3 I have not been able to capture any video. When choosing Video Capture Video Studio returns the following error
"Failed to Initalize the Video Capture Plug-in. Another program may be using it or the file has been moved."
"Open Driver Failed. Cannot create the Video Capture Filter"
[15200:43:0]
[15023:4:2]

I'm using a Sabrent USB-AVCPT capture device connected directly to a USB port on the motherboard (not to a hub) with the latest Win 7 64 bit drivers installed and using the Advanced Edit Option in VS. (the Easy Edit optiondoesn't even display the device). Is there somewhere that can provide more detailed information on the errors above. At this point I'm not sure if this is an issue with the capture device or VS Pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your Sabrent device come with any software, especially one for capturing? If so have you tried using it to capture your video? Have you tried any other software, like WMM, (not sure if it is still included with Win7) ? VS is stubborn, and there are some devices it just will not recognize or use. Some of use third-party programs to get the video onto our PCs. For instance to capture analog video using my Digital-8 camcorder connected to my PC with Firewire, I use a small freebie program called WinDV. Don't rely on one program to do everything. Once you get the video onto your PC, then you can use VS to edit it.

win 7 does not incluide movie maker.
This video editing app is now part of the live suite, which you can download still for free.
Windows live movie maker does not capture video anymore, it uses transfer from device only.
Windows live video acquire does capture from firewire devices.
Movie maker has never worked properly with usb devices.

I'd also recommend using the app which came with the device.

I am having the exact same error message..."Capture failed..." but on Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I'm also capturing via the Firewire port and having no success. I tried WinDV and that seems to work fine. The odd thing is that originally this set up was working 100% fine for me (VideoStudio Pro X3 on Windows 7, capture by Firewire), but for the past few weeks it seems to not work. I've logged a support call with Corel, but haven't heard back yet. I'm beginning to wonder if there was a Windows 7 update/patch that might have broken something.

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome...

You could try a System Restore and see if that fixes it.
