XP Pro SP3, LG External Blu-Ray BE08LU20 Drive, ATI Radeon HD 4850 Video
WinDVD Pro 10 installs with no errors but will not start from the desktop icon OR from "Programs". The taskbar icon is blank except for the little windvd icon on the left. Eventually an error message pops up to the effect that installation failed - error =1.
Uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed, rebooted, failed will not start.

Re: WinDVD Pro 10 Does Not Start
I have the same problem. I used Revo to uninstall it and then used a registry scanner to fix any registry issues. Rebooted the computer and downloaded the latest version off the internet. It installed without issues but still will not start.

You may need to apply the patches:
http://bit.ly/8YZitt
Apply SP-1 (essential); may skip SP-2. Then apply SP-3. Try that, then post back in this thread if you're still having issues.

Re: WinDVD Pro 10 Does Not Start
WinDVD Pro 2010 will not start sometimes if you do not have the latest video card drivers installed.
The ATI 2600xt is not supported by WinDVD Pro 2010.
Update Direct X:
Use the Microsoft Direct X End-User Runtime installer to make sure that Direct X is up to date
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... layLang=en
Make sure that the Windows Compatibility mode is disabled:
Right Click on the WinDVD Pro 2010 icon | Select properties | Select the Compatibility tab | Make sure there is nothing enabled on the screen, if there is disable it and apply the changes and try WinDVD pro again
Try performing a clean boot of Windows XP:
Select Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Select OK | Select the Startup tab | Select Disable all | Select the Services tab | enable hide all Microsoft Services | Select Disable all | Scroll through the list and re-enable Protexis Licensing V2 | Select Apply | Close msconfig | Reboot and then try launching WinDVD
If all of the above fails, manually remove WinDVD Pro 2010 and then create a new admin account and then try re-installing the program
1. Log on to a user account with administrative privileges since "Limited" or "Power User" accounts won't let Corel software install, uninstall, or run properly.
2. Disable your anti-virus/spyware, and firewall during this clean re-installation procedure.
3. Delete the following folders/directories:
* For Windows 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelWinDVD2010
* For Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CorelWinDVD2010
4. Go to Start >> Run and then type: regedit
5. Hit the enter key to launch the Regedit utility.
6. In the Regedit window, make sure that the following entries are removed:
* My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\DVD10
* My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\DVD10
* My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SOFTWARE\Corel\DVD10

* My Computer\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\5C1F18D2-F6B7-4242-B803-B5A78648185B
7. Close the Regedit.
8. Clean up temporary files and Recycle Bin by launching the Disk Cleanup from Start menu >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup.
9. Restart your computer.
