Spectraview Calibration and Color Space

Post by ronzie »

I am asking this here as a derivative of color the management/workspace option. I ran two calibrations for my NEC P422W monitor. One was for a Native target (wide gamut close to ARGB) and then set the calibrator utility to target sRGB and ran it again.

Only one color profile file was created. My question is does switching the working colorspace in color management affect what might be pulled out of the same monitor profile when that calibrated monitor color profile name is selected? In other words, can both colorspaces be contained in the same monitor profile and the correct one used for the active colorspace?

I did this because when I used "match" instead of "picture" there did not appear any monitor change using the Canon supplied S2000 printer profile. It did change to sRGB only when changing to "proof" mode of the Proof option. In the upper selection box there were no additional ICM or ICC profiles, only the profile created by the calibrator for that monitor.

I'll to to a NEC forum as well but thought I'd ask first here as someone might better understand the workings of color space and monitor profile switching here.

I found out a bit more. First, to correct a typo, the is the P221W monitor.

A recheck of the Spectraview II manual started the there are three color LUT 10 bit tables in the monitor. Bringing up the Spectraview utility can switch the active LUT set. So in the monitor I have one LUT calibrated for ARGB and another for calibrated for sRGB. Now, can PSPPX3 communicate with the monitor to do that?

Either way, proof mode appears to work OK.
