MPEG-4 HD -- 1280 x 720 or Xbox-360 720P?

Post by joepic »

This is my first post to this forum.

Why is there NO support for MPEG-4 HD 1280 x 720 when I try and Create Video File from VS Pro X3? The only option is 1920 x 1080.

I have the latest patches installed.

Why can I NOT create a Custom Template with this 1280 x 720 configuration?

Next question, when will the iPAD formats be available since I can not create a Custom Template with the iPAD configuration?

These options should be a very simple configuration for the end user, am I wrong?

Thanks for your help.

You can make a custom Movie Template under the Settings menu for that resolution if you want to and then it will be an option when creating a file.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Yes you can but the MAX frame size (selecting File Format MPEG-4) in the STANDARD MODE is 720 x 576. The "User Defined Frame Size" is grayed out!

If you know how to get the "User Defined Frame Size" from NOT being grayed out that would be a big help!

Thanks for you help

When creating the template change the video type to H.264-Main and then you will see that 1280 x 720 is available.

I just found it! VERY unusual way to do things!

For everyone else who wants MP4 at 1280 x 720 do the following to create a Custom Template:

Goto
Settings
Make New Movie Template Manager
New Template
MPEG-4 files (*.mp4)
COMPRESSION (tab at top)
Video Type:
H.264-MAIN
Video Data Rate:
default is 5,000 kbps (change if desired)
GENERAL (tab at top)
Frame Size (only STANDARD available)
1280 x 720

I am sure this is all explained in the manual!

Is CUSTOM always greyed out?

Thanks for you help....

What "name" did you give your Custom Movie Template?

When you go to "SHARE", "Create Video File" you should see your name of the "Custome Movie Template" in the list at the very bottom just above "CUSTOM".

Make sense?

ah ok, so the make movie template only effects the rendering of the project. I was hoping it effected the actual editing process.

I'm looking in the project properties and can't get a template higher than MPEG files at 720 X 480.

What is your project composed of - movies, pictures or both?

Your finished movie is ONLY as good as the input. Yes you can scale a movie to a larger size but the quality will ONLY be as good as the input.

Here is a great tool, MEDIA INFO, to determine what your videos files are using for audio and video codesc and the size of the video.

Media Info supplies technical and tag information about a video or audio file. Supported formats: Video : MKV, OGM, MP4, AVI, MPG, VOB, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, DVD, WMV, ASF, DivX, XviD, MOV (Quicktime), SWF(Flash), FLV, FLI, RM/RMVB. Audio : OGG, MP3, WAV, RA, AC3, DTS, AAC, M4A, AU, AIFF, WMA.

So now what do we do if we want to go beyond the resolution limits? Right now my gut is telling me to go with Adobe, because I have video capabilities that are able to produce twice the resolution of 1280 x 720 and I haven't been able to figure out what to do to get this function with VideoStudio. in fact, when I tried to customize the resolution I got the blue screen of death and was forced to run disaster recovery software as a precaution. This is not the only Corel software that has forced me to recover lost data.

You have replied to a post that is almost a year old. What version of VS are you using?

If you are after true 1280 x 720p video (i.e. full progressive 50 fps (PAL) or 60 fps (NTSC)), you can make a template for it in both X3 and X4 as follows:

1. Go to Settings > Make Movie Template Manager and select "MPEG Transport Stream (.m2t) as the format, and give it a name. Then click OK.

2. In the new dialogue box which appears, go to the Compression tab. Change the 'Video Format' to 'H.264 Video'. That is your mpeg-4, of course. Assign a bitrate below 20000. I use 18000. Tick the AVCHD box.

3. Go to the General tab. In the 'Frame Rate' box, select 50 (or 60/59.94 if you are in an NTSC country).

4. You will notice that the 'Frame Size' then defaults to 1280 x 720. You cannot change that as that is the only currently agreed international standard frame size for full progressive video -- despite the fact that more and more camcorders are appearing which film true progessive video at 1920 x 1080p.

5. Click OK then Close, to get out of the dialogue boxes. Next time you go to Share > Create Video File, your new template should be there at the bottom of the drop down menu.

If you only want to do this for one burn, then simply select Share > Create Video File > Custom, then select 'MPEG Transport Stream (.m2t)', and proceed as outlined above.
