x2 & x3 shuts down on HP laptop

Post by bhamberg »

thanks in advance for your help! ran a search but didn't find the issue. new HP dv8t laptop with windows 7 pro. VS x2 installed from factory, about 85% of the time would just shut down (usually in editing). upgraded to x3 hoping to resolve but have same issue.

I am using .MOV or .MPG video files and .JPG image files. it happens all the time (but not every time) and for no apparent reason. almost always happens during a project playback not a clip payback. seems to happen more if there is a more complex video transition - ie image to video layover but it also happens during a rendering (ps - i'm a novice at this stuff). i do get an erro message that basically says..."this program has stopped working because of an unknown issue, a dump file has been created and I need to contact tech support.

What the heck does that mean?

What kind of MPG? MPG2 or MPG4. The latter is very compressed and can be troublesome. Same with MOV files. You may want to try converting them to something a little easier to handle (AVI or MPEG2) with something like SUPER (free converter).

You realize you are on a VideoStudio forum, right?
why would i need to convert to an "easier" format.
There are literally thousands of video formats out there. Some programs handle some better than others. I don't know any one that handles them all without problems.

Also, some computers handle some better than others. Could be you have a conflict somewhere.
