X3 Crashes while playing or rendering

Post by thom13 »

Hello, I'm sorry if I'm breaking some rules here; I hope I got everything right and that somebody can help me!

I had X3 trial installed for the full 45 days and never once had a problem with it. I paid for it today and now whenever I try to playback the entire project it will crash (usually as it moves from one clip to the next) and it will also freeze while trying to render it in any of the formats (mpeg 4, WMV, even trying to upload to youtube). I have absolutely no idea what is going on and neither does the program apparently because it says that it is an 'unkown error'. :?

Help? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums!

You aren't breaking any rules, but unfortunately you have not provided enough information for anyone to be able to offer sensible advice. How did you manage an additional 15 days on the trial version? The TBYB is only 30 days...

Ha, I knew I was forgetting something!

all the video files are QuickTime Movie (.mov) files; there was some music from the music library provided, and some audio recorded straight from the record feature in the program.

no other devices involved this time.

project properties (hope this is what you are referring to):
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I've tried a number of output formats as mentioned earlier, even 'same as project settings' option, all with no luck. will get to 10 or 19% and then crash.

PAL or NTSC: I'm guessing NTSC as that is what is above in project properties, but really i have no clue what this means. I just want/need to make a short video!!!! :D

Error codes: None/unkown error has caused X3 to stop working

And Ron, I don't know. Pretty sure it was 45 days, might have been 30. 8)

and then what ??? - you downloaded and installed the full version ? you ordered a DVD and installed it ? you "activated" the trial version ???? (sorry to say that the last option is a source of problems).

NTSC is a television format - the other is PAL - if you could at least put a country in the 'location' box in your profile we could at least tell you if that was correct for your home territory

I activated the trial version; specifically I opened the program for the first time since late March and it said my trial was up so I clicked 'buy', went through the billing info, and then I was emailed a license no. I'm from Canada.

***OH! and I remembered last night that in March (using the trial version) I was also having problems with it crashing in the same manner, and the only way I could render that video without the program crashing was to make it into a DVD. The properties were pretty much the same I believe; .mov files, music from the library, and audio recorded in the program, etc.***

anybody have any ideas? I saw the users manual on this site. It would appear my processor is a bit too slow (somehow I missed that when installing) so I'm going to guess that's the problem if there's no other ideas. :(

I don't think your processor is the problem - have you read this topic :-

it seems to have a number of similarities to your problem

Thanks very much Brian, that topic helped. I have converted the quicktime files to mpeg and that seems to have solved the problem. Too bad I had to pay another $50 for another program, but such is life.
