DVD Factory 2010, missing menu tabs

Post by AUS-User »

I'm new to DVD Factory (ver 1.5.0.227) and perplexed by disparities between the help instructions and the software. When trying to change the menu background to a picture file (of my own) the help notes say...
To choose a background image
  1. Click the Background tab.
  2. Click on the + More Backgrounds button and browse for decorations in your computer.
  3. Click the Go to menu editing >button.
  4. To apply a decoration into your project, click on the thumbnail of your desired background and it will automatically be applied to your project.
  5. Enable the Auto stretch checkbox to fit your chosen background to the screen.
However, I cannot find a background tab anywhere in Menu Editing.

Likewise I can't find a Menu Transition, a Decorations Tab, etc. I have 3 tabs only; Titles, Soundtrack and Styles. Am I in the wrong menu or does this version of the software lack the features described in the help notes?

Any guidance would be appreciated.
Regards...

I have moved your post to this forum since it does not relate to Movie Factory where you originally posted it.

As you may or may not know, however, the DVD Factory 2010 module which came with VS X3 is what might generously be described as klutzy. That is why Corel, after ignoring the beta testers, finally bowed to wider pressure by users to issue a new burning module in the form of an SE version of Movie Factory 7 which operates much as previous burning modules in Video Studio have operated. Registered users of X3 can download MF 7 SE from the Do More tab. There is a very long thread on this in the stickies towards the top of the VS forum.

That being said, it sounds as though your version of DVD Factory 2010 did not properly or fully install. When I open the module after finishing my editing in X3, I get the first page, where you choose the format of the disc and pick a template, then move to the Edit page. There, I get -- where you have found the Titles, Soundtrack and Styles tabs -- another three beside them: Menu Transition, Decoration and Background. They are just there -- I didn't have to do anything to get them to appear... So all I can suggest is to reinstall the whole package... or do yourself a favour and find and download MF 7 SE!!

Ken,
Thanks for the reply. I don't have a "do more" tab, despite being a registered user. Having just read a similar posting about someone with the same problem, I've just gone onto the the Corel site and checked my registration. It was there, but with a few blank fields which I filled in and saved; no idea if that would have solved anything. I've had the software installed for over a month and it appears to be properly installed and registered. As you can see from the attached screen capture, I'm missing a number of tabs in Corel DVD Factory 2010 (ver 1.5.0.227) which is part of the Corel VideoStudio bundle.

I unsure which is the long thread you refer to in your message. Specifically which one is it?

You refer to VS X3. Is this VideoStudio 2010 (ver 1.5.0.227)? I have no idea if I'm X2 or X3. I bought the software retail in a box, and the version number given is what I ended up with after installing of the original Corel disk then downloading available updates. How do I know if I need to download further patched/updates, and where to I get them?

Sorry for all the questions but it's no so obvious to me as I'm new to Corel software.

Thanks,
Rob

Ah! Sorry!! I made the elementary mistake of assuming you were talking about DVD Movie Factory 2010 which comes as the burning module with Corel Video Studio X3. I keep forgetting that it also comes as part of the (truly awful) Corel Digital Studio 2010 suite, which is what you have evidently bought (though it is not called the 'Corel VideoStudio' bundle as you do) .

I am afraid that all I can suggest is that you uninstall then reinstall the full package to see if those missing tabs are installed. The rest of my comments above refer to Video Studio X3, and the Movie Factory 7 SE I referred to is only available to registered users of that program, and not your package...
