thanks for the feedback ...

I have gone back to using CorelX2 as X3 continues to crash for me during capture - during editing - and almost everywhere else you can think of.

I have the latest version and all Dirext X updates

Camera captures in Mpeg2, maybe that is the issue with X3, but no idea really :-(

X2 still works fine on this system :?

HDV/mpeg-2 is certainly not the problem. VS has had no trouble at all with HDV since VS10. I have a HDV camcorder (Canon HV-20) and it works absolutely fine in X3 (as it did with previous versions). HDV is really like the DV of standard definition, and generally causes the least problem. That's a main reason I stay with it. That being said, I have no idea why you are having trouble with it...

Still crashing  even after installing *all available patches.

... Virgin install of WIN7 Pro - NO additional codes installed - Quicktime is installed - very little other software installed - I did download Windows Live Movie Maker, but never use it.

This was supposed to be my dedicated Video editing box

Thanks for the offer, but I think it is something else going on with Win7 64 bit and IEEE1394 driver and some Sony Cameras.

Still crashing like crazy - can't do any work with this POS $1500 dollar PC. (knew I should have bought a MAC)

Here's a link to others experiencing the same issue and so far, unlike some, my video editing/crashing issue persists, even with legacy IEEE1394 driver:

tried WinDV Split today for capture HD footage off new clean HD tape.

X3 still crashes. It is totally unusable now. Crashes as soon as I drag Mpeg2 content onto timeline, no matter how it was captured.
BUT ...
X2 which had far fewer crashes, seems to be working ok so far with WinDV split content. I am treading very softly - walking on glass.

correction - using *HDVSplit* (not WinDV) that content works decent so far in VideoStudio X2
- VideoStudio X3 still crashes continuously whenever I drag Mpeg2 content onto time line

All I can suggest is a process of elimination?

Do you still have X3 Installed and updated?

Should be Version 13.6.2.21?

Do the issues only occur with HD Video?

Hyperthreading turned off via bios?

Disabled Smart Proxy?

Running a decent defrag program (I reccomend MyDefrag http://www.mydefrag.com/)

Assumed tried other methods of getting video off camera for editing and different formats of video for editing.

Assumed you did try a system restore after the problem first occured?

Assumed that you have done a full uninstall and re-install with updates?

I may have to download some HD video to see if I can generate the same issue?

It does sound like a DLL issue?

Have you been sent/tried any updates of the DLL in your error messages?

yes ... running Version 13.6.2.21
thanks for the good suggestions ... I have always used Smart proxy in Ver X2 with no issues, so I did not think to try editing with it off in Ver 3 and that SEEMS to be the culprit.

My Mpeg content is now usable when "smart" proxy is OFF.

- so what does that suggest? Smart Proxy and Mpeg2 have issues?
- does smart proxy need to reside on the same drive as the software installation? (I have no room for that as I use a small solid-state drive (SSD) 80 gig SSD boot drive, so my smart proxy files and raw content are on a separate large scratch disk that I frequently re-format) ?

If smart proxy is OFF and your video editing now works WHY would you want to turn it back on?

for the same reason we bought i7 processors - I can never get enough speed :-)

that said, I will take stable and fast over unstable and fastest any day.
the i7 with SSD drive seems to handle the video without proxy, effortlessly.

Does it say somewhere that certain processors or video file types are incompatible or can cause issues with X3's proxy system? I have never heard that anywhere previously. Proxy worked so well on X2 I'm scratching my head over this version's proxy.

Should proxy only be used for SD footage? Any other reasons or are others using with proxy off as a rule as well??

Ours is not to reason why.......

If it works without proxy files and works well/stable just go with it....

I am sure their will be another patch out to address the problem....
