Not included with full retail version?

Post by Flevobird »

I did read at the indexpage "Several users have been unsure where to post issues relating to the copy of MovieFactory 7 SE now supplied with VideoStudio X3. To make life easier you can post problems here."

I bought my full-version of the program a few weeks ago and see only 'DVD Factory Pro 2010' included at the DVD. Can I download and use MovieFactory 7 SE with my VSX3 activation code?

This is all heavily covered already in existing threads. Please see, for instance, the thread that begins here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 87#p192087

In a nutshell - if you have a FULL version of MovieFactory you definitely do NOT want a "SE" version (Simple Edition)
The latest service pack will however update your copy of VSX3 so that it will open whatever version of MovieFactory you happen to have installed.

Does the SE version also support blu-ray? I'm a bit confused about that, I do see a lot of information but can't see that for sure.
I have bought the full retail version, did download all of "get more" but didn't get MFSE7 ... so I can't test.

I assume the pro version has to be bought separately and SE is added for free?

Yes, the SE version can burn Blu-Ray.

As for the Pro (full) version of MF 7, it was originally only marketed in limited regions, though interestingly (and astoundingly) not in North America amongst other major markets! (Luckily, it *was* marketed in Australia and I bought mine in 2008...) I am not even sure the Pro version is still available on the Corel website... It did a variety of things not included in the SE version, yes, but it does all the essential authoring functions, including Blu-Ray.

Well, hopefully that may indicate some sort of re-think about the continuing utility of MF...

Thanks for your information. I don't get a link with 'Get more' in VSX3, does any link excist to download MF7SE?

EDIT Yes! Found link in VS, like Jan wrote, after uninstalling the try version of MS7Pro. :D

Another question ... I'm afraid SE doesnt support Dolby 5.1, I can't change Dolby setting from stereo to multi-channel while in VSX3 authoring with 5.1 is possible. If so, SE is not very useful for me. Then SE is not a real alternative for DVD Factory Pro. Is this correct?

Typically, SE versions don't support Dolby because of licensing issues - SE products are free but Dolby isn't!

I agree with you that if you pay for VideoStudio X3, and it supports Dolby 5.1, then the authoring app that comes with it ought to darn well support Dolby 5.1. This may just have been an oversight on Corel's part in their rush to satisfy the complaints of the terrible burning module originally supplied with X3. You should contact customer/tech support and tell them your findings.

I raised your concern direct with Corel, and I am afraid they have confirmed that MF 7SE only supports dual channel Dolby, and not 5.1... (I couldn't confirm it myself since I have the full Pro version of MF 7, and that supports 5.1 channel Dolby...)

I get this message when I try to download a patch (Service Pack 1 on the Corel site) for MF7 SE, which I downloaded via Get More on VS Pro X3:

'This installation wil be aborted. Please upgrade to retail version to install patch.'

Does this mean that you are stuck with this version of MF7 SE and thus excluded from any patches/upgrades unless you buy the full version of MF7?

In the past, with just about any SE or trial version you cannot apply updates or patches. I don't know if this is the case with MF7SE.
