Stroboscopic video + short black drop

Post by Flevobird »

After the patch and sevicepack (2.21) VSX3 works almost perfectly, but I found out some parts of exported video still be played "stroboscopic", even after replacement (. mts to. m2ts, same track, same AVCHD camera). At the beginning of the video there are a few fragments among many good clips, later in video there are more clips disturbed. My assembly is about 50 minutes.

After a transition (cold or effect) sometimes a very short black moment occurs (look likes video goes black and return). Strange thing is that sometimes after this moment the "stroboscopic" playing video will return playing smoothly.

I hope my English is clear enough for explaining the problem. Is this a known problem or does somebody recognize this?

Hi Richard

First of all do you mean Black as in the color/colour or Back as in ‘going back’

There have been a lot of discussion regarding ‘Blips’—the video appears to jump after a transition.
If you view the video frame by frame you can actually identify the frames progression.

There is a sticky post at the top of this forum

I do mean the color black, it look likes video is going to black for a fraction of a second.

I did read a (sticky)topic about the 'blips' and have seen that problem was in X2. I don't see a jump of frames in the video. In timeline (rendered to DVD quality) everything plays fine, problems only in my export (HD).

Thanks, I'll find out tonight ... I'm using version 9.0c. In your link I see that that my version is from 2004(!) and the newest is version 11. Its clear that time to update did arrive a long time ago, but had no reason for upto now!

Does DirectX also have effect on the export to files? On my screen everything looks quite fine. :?:

Hold on there!!! You are using Windows XP and that uses, and will always use DirectX 9.0c as its latest number -- though the precision version number will change as you update it. But it will always show -- and correctly show -- 9.0c as the number. DirectX 10 came with Vista and is what works with Vista, not XP, and DirectX 11 came with Windows 7.

However, the update pack for DirectX has elements which update all of these DirectX versions, including 9.0c...

I just didn't want you updating, then finding you still have 9.0c and thinking the update did not work!

Thanks, I also discovered yesterday that 9.0c remains on my pc. Now I know why.

I don't know what's wrong; when I replace the fragment by overwriting the problem remains, when I delete the fragment and replace it the effect is gone (most of the times?). So, maybe my project with much errors before the update is causing the problem. :?

For the short black drops after a transition I didn't find a solution yet. My project has too much cuts to start again from zero.

Hi Trevor,

Yes, I'm using Smart Proxy. Setting is DVD quality to the monitor, just like project settings (can't change project settings to another setting(?)). My problem is not on timeline/monitor but in the exportfile.

I use AVCHD 1920*1080i video on the timeline and export to the same quality. Also export to MPEG2 doesn't succeed. I tried .mts files and .m2ts files at the timeline because VSX3 should work better with the last one. No difference.

Does VSX3 rerender all video or only changed video with export?

Using Share Create Video File will create a new video file of your project, the original video file remains the same, unaltered.

I think I didn't understand your "smart proxy" because I'm still searching to solve my problem, "tunnel view" as we call it. I understood smart proxy in settings for playing smooth on my monitor, but now I think you mean 'using smart rendering' in settings of exporting a videofile? I removed the checkmark and didn't use this setting and the video plays very well. Tomorrow I'll make a test of the entire video. For this moment my problem seems to be solved. :D

NB I have the dutch version of VSX3, so I think my English explanation is not consitant with the English terms in your version. I'm afraid that causes some difficulties, even my knowledge of English. But your reaction did help after all ... tomorrow the big test. Thanks.

Hi Richard

Glad your making progress.
Not to confuse things but I was referring to Smart Proxy.
Check that files have been created via the Smart Proxy Manager.

Smart Rendering
This option is selected from the Share – Create Video File stage.
Ken from Australia has more knowledge of HD than most and does recommend disabling Smart Render when rendering HD.
Hopefully this option will work for you.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your information, it was great help to me. I indeed experienced Ken's idea by disabling 'Smart Render' works, video looks very smooth untill now. I am splitting my 50 minute project in events and exported three parts which play very well. I'm hopefull and like VideoStudio more and more after installing the servicepack. :D
