frame based

Post by dpriest »

Using VSX3 I noticed that when I go to render a video to mpg, frame-based is the default setting, instead of lower field first. When would someone want to use frame-based in a project?

How do you manage to choose Share > Create Video File > MPG in X3? I ask because one complaint about X3 is that that choice has been dropped. All that is available in the mpeg stakes is 'DVD' (i.e. DVD-compatible .mpg). And in my version of X3 at least, the default field order for that is Lower Field First. (I have never changed that anywhere as I no longer make SD DVDs...)

But apart from that observation, as Accolades says, Frame Based is mainly used for slideshows of still images. There is also a possibility of using a frame based video as a precursor to a high definition progressive file (eg 720p) which bears some similarities to frame based...

Hi

Most if not all video used for the internet are Frame Based
Video for You Tube should be frame based
Ipod video, Mpeg4 types will be frame based.
WMV is frame based.

Interlaced,
Upper or lower field order is generally used for Standard DVD intended for TV playback.

High Definition can be Frame Based (720p) or Interlaced (1080i)
