Go to the Share tab and choose Create Audio File. (I don't have Video Studio in front of me, but I believe there is an option for creating an MP3.)

FYI - THe VSP file doesn't contain any audio or video, it's just a "set of instructions".

When I go to Share>Create Sound File the choices from my drop-down list are WAV, MP4, MPA, and WMA.

I usually use iTunes to convert my WAV files to MP3.

Something must be wrong with my software. When I go to Share- there isn't a drop down menu. I also noticed that some of my editing tools are missing (in the bottom right part of the screen.) Ideas?

Corel Video Studio Pro X2
(We are in the process of moving, so my book is packed up- and I can't check it for help.)

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. I need to create an MP3 recording for a video I have, as an alternate for those who want to just listen (and not watch) my educational course.

:? I don't know what's wrong... This should be easy... What format is the video file? Did you create it with Video Studio?
Why are you using a VIDEO editing program to convert MUSIC?
Actually, a video editor (like Video Studio) is an ideal tool for extracting the audio from an audio/video file (assuming compatible formats, etc.). I do it all time, although I usually create a WAV file, edit the WAV file with an audio editor, and then create the MP3 with the audio editor or other 3rd-party MP3 encoder.

There are other tools that can do the job, if for some reason Video Studio can't do it. Here are some FREE programs you can try:
AoA Audio Extractor (I haven't tried this one.)
XRECODE (Audio converter than can open some A/V files and make an audio file.)
Audacity (And audio editor that can open some A/V files and then save the audio to an audio file.)
SUPER (An audio/video converter that con optionally save the audio-only or video-only.)

Thank you very much for your considerate answer. I will try the programs you have listed.
The video is WIndows Media. Do you think that's the problem?

No that is not the problem. You should be able to go to the [Share] tab and select create audio file.
If MP3 is not listed then select WAV. Having created a WAV file then you can quickly convert that to MP3 with
Audacity which is a powerful FREE audio editor.

Actually Shirley you may have been misled a little concerning the options under the 'Share' tab - there is NOT a drop down menu, when you click on the share tab after a few seconds the whole right side of the screen changes and a number of options are presented to you about half way down - such as 'Create Disc' and then others including 'create audio file', BUT, two things you should note 1) it usually takes a measurable time in seconds between clicking share and the options appearing and 2) you must have your video in the time line (ie open your VSP project in VideoStudio) before you click on the share tab (or you only get the create disc option). As already mentioned once you have a .wav file there are many free ways to convert it to MP3

Brian- that was it!
The delay on accessing the share button. Once I settled down and waited......the rest of the editing buttons appeared.

It's done/converted/finished- thank you, all of you, for your assistance!
