Just purchased VS9. There's a few things I don't get about Smart Download.
How do I know what's in these files? The content? Is there anyplace on Ulead's website I can find out what they contain or are for?
How do I know where they go when I install them?
I've only downloaded one so far and did not check the box to auto execute. I assume if I install them myself, they go to a default location?
I'd like to know more about them before I install them. The files showing in vs9's smart download are:
Uvs9 content pack parts 1 - 4
smart sound
ulead cool 3D 3 SE
ulead DVD disk recorder 2.1
Bonus DVD menu pack.
ulead disk recorder 2.1
I just want to be sure this stuff is worth the large download and not just a bunch of templates I'll never use.
Smart Download how does it work?

Phylis,
AFAIK there is no published content on what is in individual files - some you can guess pretty well though i.e. SmartSound.exe is the SmartSound application etc
You need it all. I didn't use the smart download - I used the supplied links and downloaded everything individually into a location that I chose. But then I used my companies Internet connection to download them and thus didn't have to worry about "drop-out" - any FTP program that has a "resume" feature should work though and will allow you to select where the file should be saved - you will certainly need this to keep a copy of the files for later use! i.e. re-installation when necessary etc. I assume (remember I didn't use it!) that the smart download stores the files somewhere - you need to find them and back them up otherwise if you experience a hard drive crash and don't have a backup of the files then you have "lost" your Version 9!

Thxs PM. They download to a sub folder of vs9 called SmartDownload. Glad I didn't just allow it to install automatically. I'd hate to have to redo this dwnload every time I reformat.
Being so new to this program, I wouldn't know if something were added or not. I was hoping it would be like the extras for Office. Whereas you click something, box comes up saying it's not installed, you have to do a special download/install.
I'll just assume they are all needed but if anyone knows what the the four part content pack is, I'm curious.

Content Packs
I am hoping I am not stating the obvious, but extra content contains the extra transitions, begining/ending videos, sounds, menu components, etc, so that you have more than one or two examples, etc. I am not sure how you purchased your copy of UVS9, but the base install without the content files, left me with a pretty bare installation (ie not much selection to choose from).
As I upgraded from other versions, I have copied the video clips, sounds from these across and manually imported them. Have not yet had success at importing the previous DVD menu items, I need to spend more time on that. Rather important if you want to work on previous productions and reburn them.

Hi George
VS 9 seems to be easier to copy the menu templates, you can copy full folders rather than individual *.ufo files.
I have only tried using the Cool folder.
VS 9 does not have a ‘Cool’ template
If you copy the whole folder ‘cool’ from vs8 to vs9 4:3 folder
Add the line Cool = Cool,7 to the ‘Template.ini’ file within the vs9 templates folder.
Seems to work.
You will have to rename the folders with the same name, but is easier than renaming all the individual ufo’s.
Hope this Helps
