PaintShop Photo Pro X3 stealing add ons from PSP 9
I installed Paint Shop Pro X3 plus the other programs on the disc. I still have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 on my computer and I want to keep it. When I opened PSP 9 to continue a project I discovered that my gradients, plug-ins, tubes and other items are missing. What happened? Why did it happen? Can it be fixed? What is Corel thinking?

While PSP X3 and Psp 9 c an use the same file location for its resources nether will move them or remove the others cache which will be in a app data folder call PSP 9 and one called X3. I have 6 version's installed even have the workspace files in the same shared folder without problem

I'm so glad it worked for you. But all my extras that I had put into Paint Shop Pro 9 have disappeared and I can't find them anywhere. I explored the X3 folders and can't find any folders for gradients, plugins, frames, tubes, etc. I don't know where everything went!!

Now SuZ Shock http://www.suzsplace.com/ Points out that for some it removes the previus My Psp Folder.
"PSP X3 Note: The ability to choose the location for user resources during the install is no longer available beginning with PSP X3. The PSP install will use My PSP Files for personally created user resources in all cases. And most importantly, the PSP X3 install (for some users anyway) appears to be a destructive install, and will remove anything it finds in the My PSP Files folder. Therefore, if you have resources in this folder that you want to preserve, move them to another location before the PSP X3 install.
There is nothing to prevent you from setting up your own folders for PSP X3+ resources once the install is complete. Just set up a folder, such as My PSP X3 Files, and create subfolders for all the resources within that folder identical to those created in My PSP Files folder. Once you have the folders created, use File...Preferences...File Locations to add your new folders to PSP. At the same time, you can remove the references to My PSP Files.
Uninstalling PSP X3 using the Control Panel uninstall appears to remove the My PSP Files folder as well, so if you have to uninstall PSP X3 for any reason, be sure to copy this file before the uninstall, or risk losing all your personally created user resources. "
As I'm using Win 7 which does not have a My Document , Its just called Documents. My files would not have been overwritten as It created a My document to put the My Psp folder in
One point the resources folder in X2 and X3 are listed by numbers like corel_10 and use a XML file to show the correct name in the cursor pop up info. this is because PSP is now multilingual

Re: PaintShop Photo Pro X3 stealing add ons from PSP 9
Thanks for the info. It would have been nice of Corel to make this info available. I have already installed X3 and lost all the files I have used for years. Some of them may no longer be available and it will take a lot time and work to find and install the ones that are still available. I think Corel should be ashamed of actions like this!!!

I agree that this shouldn't happen, although I haven't seen this problem.HeartGem wrote:Thanks for the info. It would have been nice of Corel to make this info available. But... if you ever lose something valuable on your computer you have only yourself to blame. Every computer will fail eventually in some way and everything on it is liable to be lost. If you don't have a backup you will eventually lose things, and the responsibility for backing up your data is yours and yours alone.
