Photos look terrible
I added some photos to my timeline production, anywhere from 200-600 kb. When I give the production a run
through the photos look terrible, kind of cruched up it seems. What do i do to resolve this? Should I make my
photos a smaller KB.

Re: Photos look terrible
Photo size as in KB, means nothing in video. What is the resolution sizes, ie; pixel sizes of your photos? What is the project settings? If you're going to produce a slideshow, then using the Frame Based field order will be best, also if you're using pan/zoom, uncheck preform non-square pixel rendering.

What version of VS are you using?marce wrote:I added some photos to my timeline production, anywhere from 200-600 kb. When I give the production a run

Did you just import a lot of photos onto the timeline?
Sounds like you have to adjust the ZOOM in the timeline to view to the size required.
Maybe you need to adjust the options for how long each photo shows on the slideshow?
Just trying to GUESS as to what you mean....

Re: Photos look terrible
I'm sure a number of people will offer you all sorts of "prefered" sizes marce - but for me personnally I use any size which is the correct format (ie 4:3 or 16:9) as long as it is at least as big or bigger than your standard video frame size - now here is a reason why we ask people to completely fill in their profile - where in this great wide world do you live (just the country will do we don't need to know your street address) - because I do not know whether you use PAL or NTSC without that information and so have to include details for both - which can confuse.
If you are in a PAL country then the minimum size I would use is 720 x 576 pixels - in an NTSC country use 720 x 480.
but having said that I always make my photos to MY standard according to the screen format so for a 4:3 project I would use 800 x 600 and for a 16:9 I would use 1067 x 600 - - works for me
sorry to bang on a bit but the more information you put in your profile the more we can help with solutions to your problems

Re: Photos look terrible
Hi
Yep Brian is correct in using the video aspect for your image ratios, the minimum sizes being the video size, for Pal 768 x 576 will produce a 4:3 image, 1024 x 576 being widescreen
4:3 or 16:9, just use a calculator to workout the sizes.
These would of course fill the video frame.
If you intend to use Pan & Zoom then double your sizes as a minimum, this tents to keep a better quality during zooming
If you intend to use the overlay tracks for a Picture in Picture effect then the aspect ratio may not be as important.
But you are not giving us any info on your video types, right click a video clip in the timeline and select properties. What are they?

Re: Photos look terrible
and of course you could be compiling a video in any of the multitude of HD sizes, so you might need a 1920x1080 image, same size as 16:9, but a smaller image blown up to that size will look poor.

Re: Photos look terrible
Maybe one day I'll invest in an HD camcorder then I can learn all about all those different frame sizes.

Hi Brian
Just do Create Video File -and look at the various template settings, that way it will save you a little money.
But as you say, keep to the aspect ratio.

Re: Photos look terrible
The OP said the pictures are "scrunched up"...which to me sounds like the OP is having aspect ratio issues.
Right click on the photo still in the preview window...experiment with selecting one of the options. You can see immediately which one suits you the most, Usually "keep original size" (or something like that) works a treat
