Trouble capturing DV in X2 Pro

Post by middlebury madness »

I haven't done much in a while and I want to capture some video footage from my sony camera. It seems to be controlling fine it starts and about 10 seconds into the video it stops and gives me an error: "Capturing failed File created is corrupted and unsavable. It will be automatically deleted" I have tried it both with mpeg and avi project edit properties. This is a fairly new install... last couple of months and I have done two other projects just fine from this and another camera. I tried switching my firewire. Rebooting, I haven't done anything except the microsoft updates and java update since I last used it successfully. I have the VS sp1. I am running xp w/ the most current service packs. Any ideas.

In general, Corel screwed up from VS11 onwards when they changed the various capture plug-ins, including the DV one, for one single plug-in they 'borrowed' from Intervideo (which had taken over Ulead before Corel acquired it too...) Mostly, it did not work if you were trying to use your mini DV camera as a passthrough device to capture from an analogue source such as an analogue camcorder or VCR. But a lot of other users have also experienced problems just capturing DV from a mini DV camcorder.

While there are a couple of things you could try, you seem to have done most of them already. Personally, I would just recommend you give up trying to use X2 for capture and instead use the small freeware program WinDV (windv.mourek.cz) which quite a few of us use here. Or you could use Windows Movie Maker (set to DV) for capture, and with either program you then just open the captured video for editing.

However, if either of these programs also cause problems, then obviously something else is wrong on your computer and not just X2.
