No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
When transferring .mpeg-1 files from my Panasonic SDR-H18 camcorder and then previewing in Movie Factory 7, there is no audio. Never had this difficulty before, and then there are other .mpeg files I've used and have no problem with audio/video. Previously a few months ago, I could upload almost any file including .avi, but now I also have problems with recognizing or accepting particular .avi files, but that is another subject altogether. My main concern is hearing what I could be editing. Thanks for anyone's information.

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
Are you sure you have mpeg1 files from your cam? They should be mpeg2.
Have you installed the cd which would have come with your cam, this would supply the neccesary codec if it is using an oddball one.
Have you uninstalled anything since it last worked well, as you have so many problems with different files, it sounds like something is either missing as it's been uninstalled or inaccesible due to another programme being installed which is stopping mf getting at the right codec.

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
The file attached shows that you were correct in the type of mpeg file. I downloaded a copy of the program that came with the camcorder since it didn't come with it, being used. It works great up until you need to actually view the video and won't load it to play at all. One mishap after another, but I'm hoping that I can at least use CDVDMF since I've been using it for the last couple of years. As I'd stated before, I'd previously always had audio with whatever file could be added to the 'Create and Edit' portion of the program. Can you tell by looking at the picture file specs what might be wrong and/or tell me what is the next possible step?

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
nothing odd about that file.
Have you previusly been able to use the files from this cam? With sound?
If so, then something that's happened to the pc since it last worked is causing the problem, maybe a new programme installed, unistalled, codecs installed, even windows updates.
Don't suppose you can use system restore back to when it last worked?
Can you recall any changes you've made?

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
It's been a few months since I've used the program. The only new DVD program I've installed currently as a backup are DVD-lab Pro 2, and even that program doesn't play the audio. It does mention in that program however, that (for whatever reason) multiplexed (program) files suchs as .mpg. and .vob files are only able to play both audio and video simultaneously.
I'd even loaded the previous version of DVD Factory 6 and it has the exact same problems, which include the missing audio for mpeg-2 files, a couple of .avi files which I tried loading with error messages of "not accessible", and also, not having a capture driver when using the 'Capture & Import' function. Hm, I'm stumped. Is there any hope without having to reformat?

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
It'll tell you it can only play audio and video together for multiplexed, because this type of file is a single file joined otgether, whereas you can have an mpeg video file and a seperate audio stream, such as yours, so you can watch the video or play the audio independantly.
At $250 and a much much better programme, why is dvd lab pro 2 your back up?
If this programme is a hookey copy, then that could be the reason???

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
Granted the DVD-lab Pro 2 is better, but the problems remains the same whichever programs are to be used. Since these are recent occurrences and nothing else seems to have effected the overall programs in essence, the legitimacy hasn't been an issue. Any other solutions?

So the addition of this programme, illegal or not may have caused it and it is much more likely to have been caused by an illegal copy than a bought one.vk1drums wrote:The only new DVD program I've installed currently as a backup are DVD-lab Pro 2
Use avicodec to see if the codec for the audio is on your system

If you have and all seems ok, try windows repair and then reformat and reinstall.

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
I found that I did have a lot of broken links regarding the codecs which I wasn't aware of. Downloaded the program K-Lite codec pack (which brand I'm familiar with) and this alleviated all of the video codec problems. Still have the 'No capture driver is available in the system' warning, yet can override that by utilizing the drag-n-drop method. Just relieved that I'm able to work wth the video files once again. Thanks again, Graham!

Re: No audio during preview for specific .mpeg files
Glad you are getting there.
Just as a warning, adding and removing programmes which use codecs can lead to these sorts of problems.
Using codec packs is not always a good idea, in this case it has worked for you which is great, but often it is best to look at the codec which is broken and go to the manufacturer of that codec and redownload just the ones you need.
Anyway, happy editing
