is it possible to have an overlay follow a subject?

Post by Glen_S »

Till recently, my video editing experience has been limited to moviemaker and divx author, I am hoping to get a lot more sophisticated videos so I purchased video studio x3.

I am wondering about the following.

Is it possible to create a transparent/translucent overlay and have it follow a subject in a video? I was thinking for example, darken the rest of the video and have a circle of light on a subject as it moves on the screen. Another example would be when I am videoing wildlife in hunting season, create an overlay that looked like a rifle scope and have it follow a subject.

Another one I would like would be an overlay that looked like a camera viewfinder, but in this case it would not need to follow a particular part of the video, but the whole thing.

thanks!

This can be done using the Mask effect. Select a clip in the Overlay Track, Open up the Options panel, Click the Attribute tag then Mask & Chroma Key then Check "Apply overlay options" Then in Type choose Mask effect. Scroll down and you will see one with crosshairs and a circle. Try that one .
