Select video segment to use in menu

Post by taylornm »

i,
I'm new to DVDMovie studio 7se (that came with videostudio x3). Previous pinnacle user. Anyhow in DVDMovie studio how can I select a section of a video clip to use for the intro menu? At present it only plays the first few seconds of the start of the video. I want to be able to select something further into the video clip for the menu screen. Have tried inserting another clip, but that then plays first when you press play on the DVD. In pinnacle 9 you could just set a marker to start and finish and this selection would become the clip for the menu.
Thanks

After you have selected the video clip to use as the background video for your menu, double click on it in the preview window. This will open the Start Position dialog window. Now you can play or scrub to a position farther into the video, designating it as the starting point.

Thanks for this.

I note this only works on the 'Thumbnail menus'. How can I use the design of a 'smart scene' menu with the same scrub options.

Also is there a detailed manual for this product anywhere?

And is it possible to install additional menus as there does not appear to be that many available with the product.

Thanks again.

Hi. Thanks for this. However non of the links appear to answer my question.

How can I use the design of a 'smart scene' menu with the same scrub options to select a segment of video to play as is available via the thumbnail menus?

Also the link for the program manual for DVD MovieFactory 7 SE is a dead link - any ideas, cant see this on the corel site either.

Thanks again.

This can still be done, but IMHO, they look ridiculous. From the Edit tab, select the Background image/video, navigate to the video clip you want to use for the background, select it. Now with your video as the background,double-click on it, which will open the Start Position dialog window. Set the start time, click ok. However when doing this, you're really not using smartscene menu, it is in reality a thumbnail menu. Your video or if you choose to replace the background with an image, it will take up the entire background.

Steve's article about DVD Menus, might help explain this better. The title of the specific post is Why do SmartScene menus take so long to create. It provides a good explanation of smartscene menus. In a nutshell they're an illusion. ;)
