Screen capture in PSP X3 on Windows 7 x64

Post by robnicholson »

I've used PSP for many years and used the screen capture many a time. But I can't get it working fully on Windows 7 x64. I usually have it configured to use F10 to start the capture of an area. It was working a bit (but never with IE8) about 30 minutes ago but just isn't working at all now.

What's annoying is that I'm sure one day I read/twigged what I was doing wrong but cannot for the life of me remember what I did.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Rob.

PS. The search filter on this forum is a little OTT. I says "Windows 7 screen capture" is a common phrase. Makes it kind of tricky to use the search to see if somebody else has already asked this question.

Yes it can be tricky to understand the psp Steen capture First having set it up to use F10 you have to do start capture then you select the area and hit F10. Much easier are windows own tools Print screen on your keyboard captures the active window and then paste into PSP and crop Alt +print screen will capture the active dialogue box. You also have The snipping tool. With which you drag a marque around the are you want to capture then save it to clipboard and paste it into PSP

Oddly enough not that hard. :D I know the search filter wasn't looking because it's very common but this topic was actually on the first page of forum posts here on the Paint Shop Pro Board. But even if it wasn't I remember a post about this very thing so I searched for that and found out it as still on the first page myself. I'm not saying you should have I'm just pointing out the irony of it all.

Anyway here's another topic. As far as I'm aware they didn't solve the issue. I think the suggestion of changing the hotkey was given. Since I don't use screen capture that often I'm of no help. But in this topic they discuss alternatives to the PSP screen capture that might be of interest to you. If not you can try some of the suggestions. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to call it a bug/incompatability with the current version of PSP and Windows 7. Most of the post is about other software packages to grab screenshots :-) I'm using the in-built snipping tool for now but I'd still like the PSP "Object" capture option back. I frequently want to grab the contents of an IE window of web applications for documentation and the object mode makes it easy. With other methods, you have to grab the entire window (inc. menu, toolbar etc) and then crop it in PSP.

Cheers, Rob.

I've been setting up a new computer today and I discovered that I couldn't capture screens that were web pages in my browser (IE 8). I discovered that I needed to clear the Enable Protected Mode check box on the Internet Options dialog's Security tab. I can now capture screens as expected. I hope this can help someone with the same issue.

Here are the steps I followed:
1. Click Tools.
2. Click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Clear the Enable Protected Mode check box.
5. Click OK.
