I'm sorry if I come across with other than straight-forward questions and comments, but I am very frustrated with things that I feel should be working properly and are not. And when I feel nobody can help or there is no way to talk to technical support that cares, I get very discouraged. Somehow I feel that I, as a devoted buyer and user of the last four verions of VS, should have some advantage in solving problems with this software. With my nearly 200 half-hour shows being shown in the Phoenix area, I have no small impact on the viewers and they ask about the software I am using. Solving these irritating problems would go a long way in promoting VS to others even more.
Am I talking to the wrong people about these problems? Is there a better way to approach this? I have friends who become on first name basis as the tech people work with them to straighten out some difficult issues. The end result has been a much better product that results in the company thanking my friends for the effort and producing a much better product. The most recent example was one where the border patrol in Arizona now benefits from a much more stable live topo-GPS product that I also use on my back-country photo trips. Ignoring users' complaints is not good business.
I find that VS has so many good things going for it and it is deceptive (in a good way) when it seems like it is so simple when suddenly one opens up the settings and finds numerous unexplained options. So I have left most of the settings alone. The frame size has always been set at 720X480 and the "User-defined" option is greyed out, so I can't change that to larger values. Perhaps it's because I do not use AVI. It seems like it took so long to generate and run with AVI and I stopped using it since. And I don't know how to use it properly during my editing-creating step of show production. Perhaps you can enlighten me on that.
I did realize perhaps yet another misunderstanding: Double-clicking for playback during the editing mode always did produce for me a full screen disaply and my monitor is set at 1280X1024. It's just that when I go to SHARE and click PROJECT PLAYBACK (because the display seemed so much sharper) that the display is 1/4 size in the middle of the screen. When I attempt to increase the monitor display size, I immediately run into some limitation that produces a message in a window that says that size (lower numbers to cause the display to better fill the monitor screen) is not supported. I have always used the playback in the edit mode, but am always discouraged that the result is a sort of out-of-focus display. Roxio and other brands of photo shows I've used always had such wonderful sharp dispalys in full screen during the edit mode (or later to quickly play on the PC to show someone) and I desire so much to have that again. It is so too late for me to evaluate the show quality AFTER it is burned to DVD just to see how sharp certain passages are in the final result. Waiting hours for rendering just to evaluate the result is unacceptable, especially when I know other providers do so.
Never-the-less, I do SO MUCH appreciate that you are responding to my comments and questions.

Please remember that the people responding to your messages and 99.99% of all users on this forum are Video Studio USERS, just like yourself.
They are not working for COREL.
Occasionaly some COREL reps do visit the forum and reply to messages but it is not part of their job to do so.
Any complaints regarding software function should also be sent to the COREL SUPPORT website.
Re your problems, I believe VSX3 and editing of video in general is a high demanding process on the hardware. We have to compromise in what you see as a PREVIEW in playback compared to the final output.
Creating an mpg2 file and viewing that would be the same as your final output so their is no need to burn a dvd to test.
Or burn an image file and mount a virtual DVD drive so you again do not need to burn a DVD.

Re: Recent VS updates
Thanks for your comments because I now know the limits of this forum. I didn't realize how responsive Corel would be to my email because they finally got onto my PC to see what exactly I was struggling with. I was able to demostrate to them how a perfectly fine project goes bad by just an adjustment of any of the diamonds within the P & Z feature that was set up and working well prior to my adjustments or corrections.
It saved 1000 words. They had never seen this before. Now they have an uploaded copy of the exact data that makes up this project (any of my many projects will do the same thing) and they will see what they can find. I have hopes they will find something, but I believe it is something wrong in my PC and they won't be able to duplicate it on theirs. It seems like a temporary copy of my project gets corrupted and the only sure way to clean it up is to leave VS and return to the project again. If I don't, even switching to another project without leaving VS causes the problem to continue in the next project. Weird.
