Recent VS updates

Post by billseifert »

I went through the process of 3 updates that were just announced. I'm not sure if I accomplished them all. Especially when I expected "Corel DVD Factory PRo 2010 to be renamed "Corel DVD Factory 7" as it was billed as an update. I had to do it twice. Part of the process asked to uninstall the Factory and I hesitated and switched it to 'repair" which seemed to work and it installed missing files, etc. But the name of the Factory didn't change as I expected. Did I make a mistake? Should I somehow uninstall Pro 2010 and install the new Factory? And if so, just how do I do that correctly?

DVD Factory Pro 2010 and DVD Movie Factory 7 are two seperate programs.

DVD Movie factory 7 SE is a stanalone program. A replacement for 2010.

OK, thanks. The instructions about these updates are poor. I know a number of things about computers, etc., but this can really confuse people. Had I known that the DVD Factory 2010 would not change that is invoked within VS and the update adds an external choice for our use, I would not have written about this. I never was looking for a separate addition to my desktop. Adding to the confusion was the fact that I had to re-boot a half dozen times, not including responding to the window popping up each time to install the same Data Cab each time I opened up VS. I have a feeling the next time I open VS, it will ask me to install it (Factory 7) again and am wondering how to stop the process if that happens and get on with my show creation.

The good news is that my wish has been granted. It looks like DVD Factory 7 includes most of what VS X2 had in the way of DVD titles and styles that became my standard for the 150 shows I've created in the past. I'm happier now.

With the update, you can now also access Movie Factory 7 from the Tools menu of X3. It list both the DVD Factory 2010 (which is to be avoided), and MF 7 SE. It might be noted that for those who already had the full Pro version of MF 7 installed, that button will start it too, despite the SE on the name of the button.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, while you can access MF 7 from within X3, you still cannot load an X3 project file (.vsp) into MF 7 for authoring -- only a video file produced in X3 through Share > Create Video File.

Even though DVD Movie factory is available via the dropdown it will still close VSX3 before opening.

That is because there were two patches that downloaded. One had to do with correcting databases conflicts between VS and Paintshop, the other to do with smartsound performance. However, there seems to be a third update that not everyone appears to have recieved. If you go to the Corel website and to the support section, then the Knowledgebase section, you will see on the right hand side under Announcements a link for "Service Pack 1 for Videostudio Pro X3 available". If you click on that you get the message "Permission denied. This answer is no longer available".

So, there is apparently a bug correction patch, which some people appear to have recieved, but not all of us. Further, it appears that the link had been on their web site, but has since been taken down. Read what you will into that.

I will confirm that the only updates available to me have been the SmartSound and the fix for the PaintShop conflict.

Curiously, under my Tools I have listed MovieFactory Pro, not MovieFactory SE. Clicking on it does nothing. Maybe that's because I do not have MF Pro, but only the SE version.

I do not have X3 on the machine from which I made my previous post, hence I was working on memory, which apparently isn't very good. It is DVD Factory that is in my Tools menu. Movie Factory is not listed.

I noticed the link doesn't too-hope Corel puts it back up soon.

The third link you mention that some see and others do not is for a download of DVD MovieFactory 7 SE.
The reason why some see it and others do not is because it is only offered to anyone who does not already have DVD MovieFactory Installed on their computer.

If you already have the full (bought) version of MovieFactory then you would not be very pleased if it was replaced by the SE version. I have posted this fact several times on this web board now.

My updated VS X3 Pro (13.6.2.21) Tools Menu lists both DVD Factory 2010 and MovieFactory 7se.
Selecting MF7se closes X3 and loads MF7se 7.00.30169.0

When I received the updates, MF7se was installed, and X3 check for updates gave 3 messages. First was download and install 'an important update' a list of X3 fixes - was not called Service Pack 1 ; second was termed a patch of X3 to fix some song errors; the third also was termed a patch for differences with Painter. There was no download, install, reinstall or repair of MF7se .

Explanation of the reasons for the variety of update experiences being reported would be desirable.

I too only received a link to two patches, which I downloaded and installed. I had been assuming that Steve's explanation was what had occurred as I have a full version of MF 7 Pro installed already.

However, I will draw Corel's attention to this thread and see if they can come up with an explanation...

Hi All,

Hopefully I can clarify. There are 3 patches for this update: 1. SmartSound performance patch, 2. MLE (Media Library Engine) patch and 3. VideoStudio Application patch. In terms of DVDMF, the 3rd patch sees if you have it and, if not will prompt you for a DL.

Hopefully this helps .
