VideoStudio 9 crashing

Post by martyl »

I've installed Videostudio 9 from scratch, no demo's or upgrade's. I previously used MovieFactory 3 without any problems. Since installing Videostudio 9, I've had nothing but problems with the software. When capturing to DV 1 or 2, once I click on stop, the software crashes. If I load the software up and try to import the files created from the capture, I get error messages for each one. These cannot be used. To get around this, I captured using Nero, then imported them into VideoStudio. Whilst editing, after 5 minutes of editing, the software crashes again. I'm trying everything possible to fix it, including the removal of Windows Installer 3.1 as mentioned in earlier messages, but get the same problems. Is there anyone else getting this? I'm hoping there's an easy fix for this.

Same here. Five minutes or less into the software doing just about anything and it crashes. Sometimes I get a memory error other times the entire window vanishes leaving me at the desktop.

Very dissapointed with this product, it hangs for me as well but not until it starts to render, I left it for 3 hours, just to see if it might be my computer. I have since tried several times to no avail.

So much for an upgrade....

I have two assignments to do before June both requiring video I will not be able to get anything in on time so I am now looking to buy some different software so I can complete my task, 9 is a waste of money don't buy it untill they fix it...if they fix it

Hi,

I would try Enditall

There are often programs that run in the background that impede editing.

I have had some problems with VS9 until I ran a utility to restore the system files on Windows XP.

Go to Start, Run, in the box type SFC /scannow.
Make sure you have your Windows XP install disk in the CD/DVD drive.

If the program comes up with a window and asks you to insert disk, use the mouse to tell it to retry. The program will continue until all the system files that have been changed are restored.

I also re-installed VS-9 and am not having any problems so far.

Video Studio 9 Crashes

8)

By the number of subject complaints, it appears that we have several similar yet different causes and cures.

In my case, everything went smoothly until I tried to do a normal capture from my camcorder. Ver. 9 crashed, for no reason that I could determine. this kept up for approximately one week. The error message was always from Ulead, not Microsoft.

A friend who also had Ver. 9, informed me that he had read 'somewhere' that once you installed 9, you had to uninstall Ver 8. Once you did that, you were to run the Ver. 9 installation disk, and do a Repair install. The reason for this was that Ver. 8 and 9 shared some files that created a conflict.

Since I had Ver. 8 & 9 on the same machine, I cloned the entire drive onto another HD, using GHOST. I figured that I had nothing to lose. I then uninstalled Ver. 8, and ran the Repair.

It has been almost two weeks of constant use, and no crashes. This was too much to be a coincidence. If your situation is similar, you might give this 'cure' a try.

Yup. It's generally not a good idea to run two versions of the same program on the same system....especially video software that uses shared resources; in this case many MPEG libraries etc.

Tried everything everyone and Ulead suggested without any joy. In desperation, I reghosted my machine back to a basic XP home install. Installed SP2, all security\hardware updates, installed Norton Internet Security 2005 (disabled this during the capture) and VS 9. No other software was installed. Exactly the same error! How annoying is this software? Has anyone got any ideas or is it something I'm doing wrong? I'm hoping it's something stupid I'm doing.

Ver. 9 Crashing again

Post by shoalhaven »

Spoke too soon!

Sure enough, it started crashing again this morning, always during capture.

The only way to beat it was to capture 10-15 seconds, save it, and then capture some more.

I sent a long message to Ulead, printing out the two error messages.

This is ridiculous, especially since I am putting on a Version 9 seminar to a group of hard-core Pinnacle users next Thursday. This could be ironic, instead of me converting them, they might convert me.

I have been with Ulead through Versions 5, 7, 8 and 9, and since 8, I have been feeling somewhat like a Beta tester.

I tried using smaller captures, exactly the same error. For info, I get the message in the event logs:

Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 9.0.0.0, faulting module dswplug.dll, version 9.0.0.0, fault address 0x0001d407.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Has anyone seen this or is it a generic error?

martyl, are your DirectX installation and your video card driver up-to-date? Since you are capturing DV, have you tried capturing using WinDV?
