I have DVD's (DVD-R) that i've recorded from VHS tapes using my DVD/VHS combo player.
My Ulead Video Studio 10 imports these dvd clips fine, but when I place these clips into the timeline, it only shows me the first 7 seconds or so.
Is this a problem caused by using VHS/DVD combo recordings? is there any way around it?
Thanks

Re: timeline only showing 7 seconds of import
I don't think it's a problem with your VHS/DVD player. I have a Sony VHS/DVD player and have transferred several VHS tapes. Do the video files play in their entirety using software players, like WMP? Did you use VS to record the VHS videos to disc, and are now wanting to use the DVDs to re-edit? What I'm asking how did the VHS video wind up on DVD?
Try copying the DVD folders to your HDD, then use VS to import from the VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD. If that fails, go inside the VIDEO_TS folder and rename the *.VOB files to *.MPEG, and see if you can insert them into VS..

Thank you very much for your prompt and helpful reply. I will try and copy the dvd folder to the HDD and hopefully that will work.
Yes they do play in their entirety on WMP and also works fine on another DVD player I have.
Basically I have loads of vhs video tapes that I recorded onto dvd-R using my vhs/dvd combo player. My intention is then to edit them on my Ulead studio.
Thanks again

So you have a VHS/DVD Recorder, the Sony I have only plays DVDs. I transferred them via firewire using my Digital-8 camcorder as a pass-through A-D converter.bubbs wrote:Thank you very much for your prompt and helpful reply.

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention it: the vhs/dvd combo I have is a dvd recorder.
Re: timeline only showing 7 seconds of import
I have just downloaded the DVD folder onto HDD and imported it from the VIDEO_TS Folder but it still gave me the same result. I then changed the file to .MPEG from .VOB but again this didn't solve it. It shows me the entire thing in the library playback (although the timer seems to be wrong), but when I drag it onto the timeline to edit, it is then it only gives me 7 seconds of the clip?????
A friend of mine suggested it may be a problem with the Ulead software and has advised me to try Magix Video Studio, as that seems to be a lot more forgiving towards importing.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi,
It would assist users offering help if you were to fill in the details of your system in the USER CONTROL PANEL.
What size are the VOB files you are importing?
There may be more than ONE VOB file. Have a look at another 'NORMAL' DVD and compare.

Re: timeline only showing 7 seconds of import
The way some dvds are written means that a video editing app only picks up the first chapter point, if the dvd recorder saw a scene change at this 7 second point and wrote a new chapter this can be why you are only seeing this one item.
I'd use sqaured 5's mpeg streamclip to convert the vob files on the dvd disc to dv.avi files on your hard drive and then import these into VS.
