DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd player
I burn my DVD on Ulead Movie Factory 6, and it burns all fine and everything. When I try to play it on any DVD player, it says "This disc can be neither played nor recorded." I have tried everything and I don't know what else to do. Please help.

Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
can you tell us all the properties of the files you used in making the dvd adn what you used on the dvd, what process you used in burning the dvd, if you try to play the dvd on your pc does it play, use windows explorer to tell us what files are on the disc, what type of disc is it -/+R RW etc, and what discs your dvd player is compatible with.
Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
I have the exact same problem. I successfully created a video in VSX3 (Blu-Ray format, Mpeg 2) and then created the menus, etc in MF7 SE. It previews fine and the disc is made successfully. It also plays fine on my PC using a blu ray software player. When I put it in my new Samsung BD-C6500 it says "cannot play, check disc". I also tried making the source video in VSX3 in H.264 format but when I play the disc on my Samsung (and also on my computer in this case) the first play video plays, and the menu's work, but the videos just lock up right away and the disc ejects. I'm really frustrated now since I just bought this blu ray recorder (Pioneer) and new Blu ray player so that i can record my home movies in HD and it seems that no matter what I try i have a problem. I would consider myself quite experienced in creating movies on DVD as i have made over 50 in my home movie collection so far, but this is my first try with HD. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Also, do you suggest making a single movie file with VSX3 (as opposed to many and putting them all together in MF7 SE) and what format is prefferred for the best tradeoff of quality and performance (H.264 or Mpeg2). Thanks for the help!!

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit version
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Quad, Q6600 2.4ghz
Nvidia Gforce 8600

I can't directly answer your question, but here's my experience. I create movies 5-6 minutes in length and saved as mp4-hd format in X3. The files play fine on my LG bluray player from a flash drive. When I load the files into Factory 7SE, the data size is about right; however, the run time is about 50% too short when checking file info. When I burn a DVD or AVCHD disk, the overall quality is quite good (better than within X3 or X2); however, every short movie is trimmed by about 50%. The disks play fine on my LG player, but are worthless.

Hello msuplantdoc :
It may be the discs you are using. Are you using DVD-R or DVD+R? I ask because I was making a DVD for a friend of mine. I gave him the project on a DVD-R. It didn't work. They, then, actually went out to purchase another DVD player. To my surprise, the disc worked.
I am noticing that depending on the blank media used, some DVD players will not play - especially older models. It is a tricky balancing act when burning a project.
It is hard to pinpoint what is exactly happening in your case. I just brainstormed this option as there may be numerous issues happening here.

Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
I know the problem with each clip being cut by 50% is not the DVD or firmware etc. I discovered the 7SE reports that a mp4 HD file created in X3 is 60fps, which is not right. Other software, including mediainfo, reports 30 fps. If I save my movies as 720P wmv files and then import into 7SE, I can create DVD and AVCHD disks without a problem. I think the 60fps rather than 30fps accounts for the trimming by 50%. There seems to be some type error in 7SE with mp4 HD files because they are not 60 fps. Note, I start with 720P, AVCHD Lite files. Formats, codecs, etc ....what confusion.

I don't know what the answer is, and I have the suspicion there may not be one. I know you said in another thread you didn't have any trouble with editing AVCHD Lite in VS X2, but unfortunately that was not the case for a lot of other users with AVCHD Lite. X3 was supposed to have improved the situation.
But your problem appears -- at least to me -- to be a combination of the nature of AVCHD Lite itself, and the age of MF 7 SE's coding -- which dates from around May 2008. "Normal" 720p AVCHD films uses a framerate of 60 fps (that's 60 full, individual frames per second) and is the preferred format of networks like ABC and Fox in the US, especially for fast-moving sports broadcasts. But AVCHD Lite, as its name implies, is a cut-down version of full AVCHD. It still films using a framerate of 60 fps, but every second frame is a duplicate of the preceding frame, resulting in thirty actual frames per second. This frame rate limitation stems from the capabilities of the camera sensor, it's not a limitation of the format (as normal full-fledged AVCHD is used as the storage format).
Now, the problem with MF 7 SE's (and the full Pro version's) age is that it, like X2, came out before AVCHD Lite really appeared on the market, and so wasn't designed to deal with it. In other words, I think it would see the 60 fps in which the filming took place but not be able to detect that every second frame was a duplicate of the preceding one. Either that, or the mp4 codec used by MF 7 SE sees only 30 fps and thus drops every second frame. Hence only half the overall length is produced...
Unfortunately, I don't have any AVCHD Lite video to be able to test it...

Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
For what it is worth, I *do* have some full AVCHD 720p video, and MF 7 correctly shows it as having 60 fps or 50 fps for PAL). However, when I choose AVCHD output in MF 7, the only framerate available is 30 fps (25 fps for PAL) and moreover the only frame size options are 1440 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080.
I chose the former frame size and proceeded to 'burn' an AVCHD folder. It took about five times real time to produce the folder, but the end result appears extremely good -- I can't tell the difference between it and the original. And the new AVCHD file was exactly the same length as the original...
So again, all I can say is that MF 7 would appear to find it convenient, in producing an AVCHD/mp4 from an AVCHD Lite 720p original to simply drop every second frame as they are identical to the first frame... And hence reduce the overall length by half...

Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
I find it odd when creating a movie from AVCHD Lite files in X3 that all proceeds just fine. If I render the movie as a mpeg 4 HD choice in X3 the movie plays fine on my WD HD and LG bluray player from a flash drive. Mediainfo utility reports 30 fps; however, when the mp4 files are imported into 7se, they are reported as 60 fps and then cut by 50%. I now work around this situation by creating the movies as 720P wmv files, which work fine in 7SE in creating DVD or AVCHD lite disks. Strangely, the wmv files play fine on the WD HD player but not the LG bluray, which doesn't even see them. I think Corel should post this info on the web site and save people aggravation and frustration.

Re: DVD burns ok but problems when trying to play on dvd pla
But why should the LG be able to detect and play a format which was never meant to be played on a stand-alone player? WMV was developed as essentially a web/computer based format. It does not conform to either standard DVD or high def Blu-Ray/AVCHD formats, which *can* be detected and played on a stand-alone Blu-Ray player. Although I am not totally sure, WMV may, however, play over one of the relatively recent multimedia devices which connect directly to a HDTV via HDMI...
